Music was my favourite subject. Not because my best friends were in the same class due to being in the most advanced music class, but because of my mother. She would always play the piano and sing with me, she taught me how to sing and read notes. My mother passed away three years ago, it was tough for my father and me. He got depressed and had stopped working for several months, we were so close to being homeless. Fortunately, he had accepted the reality and moved on. Unfortunately, he had decided to work internationally, travelling to this country and then travelling to that country. My father found it hard to be happy in a place that reminded him of his dead wife, although he never admitted it, I could see it in his eyes. During the time he was depressed, I had learned how to do all of the housework from cleaning to cooking. I have to admit, it does get lonely sometimes but that's what you get for being independent, there are times where I wish my father was here. He wanted to come home during the rare days he had off but I told him to rest on those days because his work was very demanding. My father had been able to earn a lot of money after starting working again, he was able to buy me a nice house and gives me a monthly allowance with enough money to live comfortably. My father is only able to visit me during the Christmas and New Years.
"Jin-Ae, are you listening to what I'm saying?" Chae-Eun distracted me from my train of thoughts. I shook my head with a wide grin. "I was saying, we should sit in the cafeteria today because there might be some hot new guys this year, you game?" She smirked.
"I'm game," I replied. Not that I would matter, Chae-Eun is so pretty. No one would notice me. But I'm glad, if someone likes me then they would like me for my personality not looks. Not that I'm ugly... At least I don't think so. I just prefer comfort over fashion. I have nice clothes but it takes too much effort to put something together.
"You? The homeless coat hanger? Checking out hot guys?!" Minah asked in an insulting way, "Oh Honey, don't waste your energy, they won't even look at you twice. Why don't you check out hot guys with me instead, Chae-Eun?" Kim Minah is basically the Regina George of this academy. Her boyfriend, Do Min-Joo, isn't any nicer than she is. They both bully me because of my looks. They're both popular but they're no match for Chae-Eun, Chang-Suk and Dae-Joon.
"No thanks, but I'm actually allergic to plastic," Chae-Eun shot back. If Minah had a brain then she would realise that it was an indirect insult.
"What plastic?"
I guess not.
"It's okay Jinnie, do not fear! Chang-Suk is here!" Chang-Suk tried to brighten up the atmosphere. I gave in him a smile smile in return.
"Settle down everybody! Settle down. My name is Mr Choi and I will be your music teacher for this year. Welcome to Senior year, your last year here so make the best of everything," Mr Choi announced, "I can see we have Lee Chae-Eun, Min Chang-Suk and Park Sin-Hae."
"Park Jin-Ae," Chang-Suk corrected for me.
"My apologies, Park Jin-Ae. As you guys heard, if you were paying attention, BTS and GOT7 will also be attending the academy this year. They will be placed in the Advanced Arts program. For those who don't know what that is, it's basically an after school program that only the top art students from the academy will be attending. You can be in the MUX121A (music + extension + grade 12 + semester 1 + class A- the top class of this subject) but you might not be in the program," Mr Choi continued to explain.
Chae-Eun, Chang-Suk, Dae-Joon and I are in the Advanced Arts program but so are Minah, Min-Joo and their friends. The program basically consisted of the best and worst people in my life. -.- Not sure how I about that. The rest of the lesson was just Mr Choi explaining the course planner. He mentioned something about an excursion and some end of the year performances.
"Alright class, that's all for today. The real work starts tomorrow, so come prepared. Class dismissed," Mr Choi said.
"Where the heck is Dae-Joon?! They've never kept him for this long," Chang-Suk whined as we made our way to the cafeteria.
"He probably skipped after they let him out," I suggested. We went to sit in the centre table, where we could see everyone and everyone could see us. I could hear the people whispering as I walked passed them. Hopefully about something positive. I opened my backpack to grabbed out our lunch, yes OUR lunch, this was the reason why I was late this morning. I was too into cooking the best lunch possible that I forgot about the time. "Here you go," I said as I gave them their lunch.
"You truly are from heaven, THANK YOU SO MUCH!" Chae-Eun thanked me with the brightest smile that could knock anyone off their feet.
"This smells amazing, we should get married, Jin-ah. You would be a wonderful mother," Dae-Joon surprised me and made me blushed. I tried to look away but he had already seen my blushing face and he smirked. "Did you miss me?"
"No," Chang-Suk angrily replied.
"Yes, you did Chang-Sukkie~~ but I wasn't asking you -.-" Dae-Joon teased him, "by the way, they started threatening me about losing my rights to go to the school. Guess I better started behaving better... Nah, I'll just try to not get caught." We finally started eating their food and had small talk here and there.
"Do you think they'll put BTS AND GOT7 in the same class with us? Or will they train separately? Do you think they will be there this afternoon?!"Chae-Eun asked excitedly.
"Let's not get too worked up here. We shouldn't have high expectations, they might not be there," I reasoned," come on, let's go, everyone's gone."
The rest of the day was boring. On Mondays, I would have drama with all of my friends followed by music with them too but the rest of the day was full of boring subjects like biology, maths and English without any of them. I'm only good at the subjects because after my mother had passed, I became depressed and filled up my spare time with studying.
I've always been introverted and shy. We all became friends through the Advanced Arts program, the four of us were put together into a group in our first year for the end-of-year performance and we all became really close. I'm envious of my bests friends ability to be so extroverted. I'm closer to Dae-Joon than I am to the other two. Dae-Joon and I are close because we don't have any other friends but Dae-Joon has no problem interacting with others while I, on the other hand, feel very nervous and scared. So whenever Chae-Eun and Chang-Suk are hanging out with their other friends, Dae-Joon and I hang out together alone. I would be lying if I said I didn't like Dae-Joon, I mean, come on, we've been friends for years and we've had a lot of alone time together.
I looked at the clocked. 4:30pm I guess it's time to head to the dance room to meet the others. The Advanced Arts program starts with dancing on Mondays.
Hmmm, I wonder who the new students will be...
