You gotta be kidding me, Childe thought as he glared at the man standing in front of him, the two of them engaged in a mutual staring contest. Why- why did it have to be him, of all people? Scaramouche crossed his arms, looking up at him from his shorter height. His kasa hat cast a shadow over his expression, which Childe found himself grateful for as it meant he didn't have to look at his face. And he just knew that he was sneering right back at him under it anyway.

"I'm not happy about this either," Scaramouche snapped at him. "I'm just following her majesty's orders." Childe rolled his eyes. "Well, yeah, it's not like you to volunteer to help with anything." Scaramouche's eyes narrowed, his gaze flicking to the basket on his back. "What's up with that, anyway? What's in it?" "None of your business. It's just some stuff." The shorter man stepped forward. "If it's anything that the Tsarita won't allow..." Childe stepped back, throwing his hands into the air. "It's nothing, okay? It's literally just- food-" Scaramouche's frown deepened. "Food? If that's it, you probably have enough food in there to feed an army." In terms of military rations, yes- technically. But still. Childe snarled. "Well, I'm eating all of it. Don't expect me to share." The 6th harbinger snarled back at him. "Wouldn't want it even if you did, you pig."

Even as he argued with the insufferable git, he found that somewhere, deep, deep, deep, inside- he was grateful for Scaramouche's companionship- despite their constant bickering and deep rooted hatred for each other. "Eh? What's with that sappy look on your face? One month off and you're already getting soft? How are you not dead yet?" Okay, never mind. Right now Childe wanted nothing more than to pull out his hydro daggers and stab the man. But he held back. Because he was a mature, grown up, adult. Who knew better than to murder his colleague. A voice at the back of his mind scolded him for even thinking such a thing- and it sounded a lot like Y/N. He clenched his teeth. Great. He hadn't even left the mountain yet and he had already starting thinking about her again. "...Okay, whatever. Let's just go."

Scaramouche spun on his heel and quickly made his way through down through the gates at the base of the mountain. Childe tightened his hands around the bamboo straps of the basket, and quickly followed, sidestepping several ditches and potholes in the stone path. Scaramouche was already a dot in his vision- for someone so small, he sure moved fast. Childe hurried faster towards him, who had stopped and was waiting for him impatiently.

"What is taking you so long?" Scaramouche growled. "Has living in the mountains in a recluse made you weak? This should be nothing compared to our training." Childe blinked. He grinned slowly. "Hey... are you worried about me?" He cackled. "Aha- that's so kind of you, Scaradouche-" "SHUT UP!" Childe chuckled, shaking his head. He thought for a moment. "Wait- maybe you're right-" "Eh?" "Okay, wait a sec, lemme just empty this out a bit..."

Childe carefully removed the basket from his shoulders and put it on the ground in front of him. Removing the lid, he peered inside and pulled out Mitsuha's temari ball and Taki's origami crane- "Did you bring a whole toy store with you?"- followed by a thick winter coat and a boxed lunch. Scaramouche grumbled as Childe held some of the items to him. The purple haired man reluctantly took the items into his arms, shoving a few unceremoniously into his deep pockets. Childe looked back into the basket. And stopped. Wait. Was that- "Why did she-"

Inside, nestled at the very bottom, was the wooden chest that held Y/N's typewriter. The thing she said was one of her precious treasures. Something she couldn't bear to part with. Why. Was. It. Here. He yanked open the lid, finding a small piece of paper with a note written on it. Grabbing it, he held it right up to his face, so close he could almost smell the ink. "What are you doing now, you-" "Shh." "Hey, I'm not done, you-" "Shut up." "!!!"

Hi Ajax, He read as he vaguely registered Scaramouche yelling in the background. You're probably surprised right now, huh? I did say that this was important to me. But I've thought about it, and you are too, you know? And I thought- since Mitsuha and Taki went out of their way and got you a parting gift, I thought it was only right that I got you one too! So here it is- hope you like it! Just a small token of my thanks- I really had fun this month, Tartaglia. Hope our paths cross once again!
