chapter four
❛ the storm ❜Looking up at the sky, the clouds were dark and the rain was coming down harder. Water drops were falling off of her eyelashes making her shield her eyes and look down at her shoes that were sloshing in the small puddles of mud.
By the time she reached John B's house, her shoes were squeaking, clothes were stuck to her body; it looked like she had just dumped a bucket of water over her head.
As she sloshed through the swimming pool of a front lawn and around the back of John B's house, she walked up the stairs and was expecting to walk into an empty house as the boys were most likely out trying to do whatever it is that boys do in storms, but instead, she spots JJ laying on the futon, sprawled out and ready to sleep through the approaching hurricane.
The sound of her wet footsteps is what makes JJ raise his head to look at her drenched state.
"Went for a swim?" He snickered, propping himself up on his elbows as he takes in her appearance.
"Something like that." She grumbled, not too happy about the boy being here still. As she looks down, the water drops fall from her hair reminding her that she can't walk into a house like this. Looking back over at the Maybank boy still looking at her with a smirk on his face, she sucked up her pride and let out a breath. "Can you, uh, can you get me a towel?" she asks.
"What was that?" He raises an eyebrow, the smirk never leaving his lips.
She sighed, crossing her arms to hug herself. "Can you get me a towel...please."
"Of course, Princess."
She groaned knowing the nickname was coming. He uses this name every single time she asks for a favor or does anything he considers 'kook-y'.
JJ rolled off the futon and walked out of sight down the hall. She turn around to look at the trees as they swayed around in the harsh wind that had suddenly come in from the ocean. She could feel her heart rate pick up half a notch at the sight of the trees blowing in the wind. Her fear of strong winds was an odd fear and unfortunately, she knows that she'll never get over it. The breeze was chilly making her shiver at the feeling of the cool air against her sopping wet body as her clothes clung to her.
"Here." She turns around to see JJ holding out a towel. She mumbled a thank you and took the towel. It feels warm to her cold, shaky hands.
She wraps it over her body and dries her legs before stepping into the Chateau and hung up her damp bag on a hook by the door. JJ closes the door behind her then walked into the kitchen. She watched his every move, not sure why her eyes were fixated on the boy.
He looked up from what he was doing. "Just because I gave you a towel doesn't mean we're suddenly besties. Quit watching me, weirdo."
She rolls her eyes then heads to the bathroom to shower and change. After doing so, the coolness from earlier was still creeping over her body despite the fact that she had a pretty hot shower, so she changed into an oversized shirt that she found laying around the Chateau long ago and some shorts then went into John B's room and took one of his hoodies.
Making her way back into the main room of the house, she noticed that it was now empty. Looking around to see if JJ was anywhere, she twists her lips to the side and take a seat on the futon. She couldn't help but feel some sort of disappointment if JJ was now gone. If the storm suddenly hit, she didn't want to be alone in the house.
