The warmth of the summer days were long gone and fall had just begun bringing its ominosity. A week had passed since the obscure attempt to kill Griffith had happened, leaving the band of the Hawk speculating who could have committed the act, and why. Guts sat atop of a tower gazing at wyndham, it was a triumphant capital with infatigable citizens who were now admirers of the band of the Hawk due to its undefeated success in battles. It made guts wonder who in this city could have tried to kill Griffith, a man of such great ambition, a man who had demonstrated nothing but allyship to its kingdom. Guts admired Griffith dearly, he wondered how a man similar to him could have come so far just by following a dream, at times he even felt jealous, for the reason that he also wished to have a dream or at least a purpose to swing his sword, but for now he was comfortable with simply following Griffith's dream until he had one of his own. His thoughts were cut short as Judeau approached him with a friendly demeanor:
" What are you up to? Great city isn't it?" asked Judeau
"Who do you think could have tried doing such a thing?"
"Not sure, I am still confused about the situation myself, it was truly fortunate the egg of the king magically stopped the arrow."
Guts sighed and leaned back against the cold stone wall, they both went silent for a brief moment until Judeau began opening up to guts:
" There is something different about you Guts, something that really seemed to have caught Griffith's attention, but I don't know what." - he laughed
"Why do you say that - Guts seemed confused, unsure why Judeau would say such a thing out of the blue."
"Ever since you joined us, he has treated you differently from the way he treats us, almost as if you've been his best friend for many years."
"Well it's been three years since I joined, I'm sure it's no different from you and Casca or anyone else."
"Yes that is true, but i just really think he looks up to you in a certain way, could just be how skilled you are in battle, I'm just saying."
Judeau looked at him in a strange way, as if hinting at something Guts could not understand, however Guts did not think much of the situation and decided to head back to the camp, as turned his back Judeau interrupts him one last time to inform him Griffith wanted to speak with him right away, he wondered why as it was very late but headed to Griffith's chambers immediately.
Guts walked through wyndham's endless bumpy streets, the silence of the night did not aid with his now bombarding thoughts, he wondered why Griffith wanted to speak with him so late and why Judeau would tell him that, he was sure none of it mattered but it still left him puzzled. He walked up spiralling stairs towards a private chamber within a tower, when Guts arrived he gently opened a door which was left slightly opened. Griffith turned to him and smiled welcoming him in, he was surrounded by books which left Guts a bit overwhelmed.
"Sorry to bother you so late, this won't take long."
"Have you read all these books?"
"Most of them, it is always great to expand your knowledge beyond the one in the battlefield."
"No need for all that fancy work." - Guts laughed
Guts slightly leaned on the table Grifith was working on and looked at him, they made eye contact and Guts sensed Griffith was plotting something as he had a strange look on his face, an unfamiliar look of excitement:
"I'd like you to kill a man for me." - Griffith said with a sinister smile
"Who? Is this the man who tried to kill you?"
