Chapter 14 - Vengeance of a Demon
Revenge is a fools game, some may say. And they aren't wrong, but some things are worth the trouble.
-_Pentagram City_-
A shadowy figure takes a drag of his cigarette in a run down alley way currently devoid of demonic presence. Although he's often around people, there's nothing he likes more than to enjoy the silence. It fills him with some sort of serenity and catharsis to get away from his stressful job.
He coughs a little after one especially prolonged drag. He wasn't used to smoking despite his setting and, well, he felt like he'd need it seeing what he's about to commence.
Another drag of his cigarette, making sure he doesn't make that mistake again and eases into it, only coughing slightly this time. He looks at the bright red, not so blood-esque, sky in annoyance as he leaned against the wall.
His patience wearing thin, he sighed. "Where the hell is she..."
As if right on cue, a feminine figure in a full trenchcoat, concealing her face, suddenly ran up to the demon, her footsteps being noticeable as they hit the floor. Almost strangely enough, it had rained yesterday. The demon looked up in alarm as the figure yelled...
"Prodigal!"
The young hellborn demon turned to look towards her direction. He was noticeably relieved. "Hey Jess, what kept ya?"
"Well, you weren't very specific in what alley you'd be in..." Jess started but was cut off by the odour of the assassin. She fake-retches as she clamped her nose. "What the hell? When was the last time you took a shower?!"
"I don't really feel like answering that question right now..." Prodigal chuckled nervously as he said this, scratching his hair in embarrassment. It was true, though. He hasn't really had time to get a proper shower nor full nights worth of rest. His job as an assassin has him move everywhere, so he couldn't settle in one place.
"I bet it's because you don't know!" Jess scoffed, turning her back and folding her arms. She also took off the hood, revealing her demonic features. To many, she was drop dead gorgeous. She had short jet black hair with black lipstick on, white eyes with blue pupils, and light red skin. "Hmph! You're never gonna get a girlfriend like that."
"Yeah, maybe..." Prodigal says, "I don't really care about getting one right now. I've got a job to do, Jess."
Prodigal relieved himself from his relaxed position and checked his watch, it displaying approximately 7:34 PM. He finished his cigarette and threw it on the floor, crumpling it.
"Since when did you smoke?" Jess crossed her arms. It was sort of unusual seeing her friend smoke.
"Since when did you start caring about my well being?" Prodigal softly argued back in mockery.
"Since, like, 12 years ago? We've known each other for a long time..." Jess replied simply. "All I'm saying is that maybe you could present yourself better. I know you used to work under Janemba, but don't let his habits seep into you. It's how he got himself killed by that-"
"That fuckin' Saiyan, yeah, I know. Everyone knows about it. Dude's the most popular guy in Hell now 'cause of : A. his human features, B. him dating the damned Princess of Hell, and, most importantly, C. him effectively killing the biggest threat to Lucifer. I don't need a reminder of that shit biscuit," Prodigal shot back with passion in his voice. Not a lovely passion, but a semi-raging one.
