"Humiliating! I cannot believe you actually fell face flat on the ground when you went in front of the class during the last History Presentation!" Jake laughed hard, as tears trickled down the corner of his eye. Devin's face was flushed red, although he told them not to ever mention about that incident again, Jake still mentioned it. Jake had always been that one guy in the friend group who was the clown and maybe the most cheerful one, but at times he could be really serious when necessary. Kyler, Michelle, Melissa, Gabby, Mathew, Anne and Alyssa had been friends with Jake since when they were in middle school. They were lucky they had managed to get together in highschool. Sadly, Brooklyn had left for Paris since her parents had jobs there. They all missed her, maybe except for Gabby. Brooklyn had never seemed to be nice to her, no one really knows why. Each of them had always personally tried to ask Gabby for the reason but she would not give in. Lately, Gabby had seemed to be loosing interest in many hobbies and tried avoiding them. Gabby had been mush quieter than usual.
"Gabby? Have you prepared for the History Presentation for History class later on?" Melissa ask her as she gathered up her items for the presentation.
"Yeah, for once I guess." Gabby emotionlessly replied Melissa, avoiding eye contact as she combed her shoulder length hazel brown hair.
"Cool, who are you presenting on? I am presenting on Thomas Edinson. I mean, it is quite easy." Melissa shrugged her shoulders as she said.
"Well, I am presenting on Sage Michelle Mishwood..." Gabby muttered.
"Nice, Michelle is presenting the same person as you! Maybe because Sage has the same middle name as her!" Melissa chuckled, playfully hitting Gabby's head.
"Dude!" Gabby shouted, a little small smile appeared on her face, and it was rare to see Gabby smile nowadays. Melissa's eyes widened upon seeing the rare scene. She could not believe it, gabby had finally smiled again. Glad of herself making Gabby smile, she dragged her out of the locker room to the group at the canteen.
"What's up Melissa?" Alyssa greeted her with a smile on her face. "Oh! Hi there Gabby! I have not seen you yesterday, where have you been?"
"Well, I-" Before Gabby could even properly reply Alyssa, Melissa cut her and shouted out loud at the group to announce her success.
"Guys! You know what? I made Gabby smile just now!" She screamed, her squeaky voice echoed the canteen, people turned to look what was going on. It sounded like some crazy person shouting. Some others turned to whisper to their friends, probably it was about how crazy Melissa was.
"Really?" Kyler and Anne gasped at the same time. Jake's and Mathew's eyes widened in disbelief while Alyssa and Devin's jaw dropped.
"Uhh, guys can you please not..." Gabby mumbled as she rolled her eyes, she thought this was stupid, but the rest of them thought it as if they Melissa found gold or something.
"Okay, fine, but please, we really miss the cheerful old you. What is going on with you?" Anne softly asked Gabby in a comforting voice. Whenever they ask her what happened she would feel like crying, but she just kept telling herself to suck it up. For some reason this time she couldn't, no matter how hard Gabby tried, a small drop of tears still escaped from the corner of her eye. She rubbed it away in an instant.
"I will try, if you guys stop telling me you miss the old me." Gabby spat coldly at them. Anne's eyes narrowed as she sighed. "Come on Jake, Alyssa, it is time for History class. You wouldn't want to be late with such a fierce professor."
"Alright, alright. See you guys later!" Alyssa bed them goodbye as Jake waved at them along with her. Gabby simply ignored them as she turned to walk away, not even saying goodbye or a simple wave.
"Hey who are you guys presenting about? I am doing Sage Michelle Mishwood! What an interesting mystery about her!" Alyssa exclaimed at them as she walked.
"Same." Gabby replied with just one word, it shows she has no interest to talk.
"Same! Her death really is a mystery though." Jake replied. "I mean... No one really knew how she died, but they just found her body untouched and buried her at her museum, in the basement."
"Exactly, although that was like a century ago or something, I can't believe the mystery had not been solved." Alyssa said. "It is kind of creepy in my opinion."
"Yeah, same here." Jake answered. They stepped in the noisy classroom and settled down on the same table. The students were a lot nosier today, maybe because they are chattering to each other about their presentations. Some were even throwing paper balls as usual around the classroom, some girls at the back kept squealing about almost everything each of them said. That really annoys Gabby, sometimes she hopped to kill them. The moment the sound of the clacking of high heels echoed the hallway outside the class, everyone immediately stopped talking in an instant and some students fled back to their seats.
Everybody stood up and greeted the professor without needing her to tell them to greet her. It is surprising how a noisy class can become so obedient and polite just because of a professor, it shows how strict and fierce this professor is. "Who shall start presenting today? Please raise your hands." Professor White called out in her loud ferocious voice. Everybody looked down, no one raised her hands. Gabby was not really paying attention, she just looked out of the window.
