It was exactly midnight. It was really quiet, usually Gabby would hear owls hooting outside, or the sound of flapping wings as bats flew by or her parents snoring next door, but this time, it was so silent that Gabby could hear a pin drop. As if there were any pins in her bedroom. Gabby lied on her soft bed, it was in a mess, her pillows were everywhere, some were on the floor and her blanket was flung all the way on the chair of her study table. Just now she had been researching for so long that she accidentally skipped dinner and forgot to shower. She felt extremely tired and just wanted to fall asleep although she had not bathed, but for some reason she just could not. Every time she tried to close her eyes to have a peaceful sleep, the picture of the house just popped up in her mind. She is feeling really tired and is dreading to sleep but she could not do that, she just felt... Scared. This feeling was a feeling she had not felt in years, the last time she felt scared was when a snake nearly bit her when she went for a picnic with her parents at the park.
Gabby suddenly had a thought of something, she did not want to do it but she still did it she did not know why. She ran downstairs, still in her clothes she wore to school and put on her boots. She grabbed her bike from the garage. She had not rode it in a long time. Gabby remembered the last time she rode it was probably a year ago when the bike was still neon blue and shiny new. Now is was blue with some rusty parts. Gabby reached to try to turn on the light on the bike, but the light did not on, it must have ran out of battery after such a long time. Gabby rolled her eyes in frustration. She got on a bike and proceeded to cycle forward, she had no idea what was her destination, she just felt that something was pulling her to go that direction. As she cycled, a few cars drove past although it was already late. She then arrived at her destination, the forest. She wanted to go back and leave this horrifyingly creepy place, but she did not she just stepped in and walked forward. As she walked in silence, the deeper she got in the woods, the more scared she was. She wanted to run back, but she still could not. Further in she saw an old wood cabin, there was light coming from the inside, she felt like she was some sort of character in a horror story but it was just that there was someone in the house. She felt something pulling her in the direction again, she figured out that direction the something was pulling her to, the wood cabin.
Five minutes before that...
Alyssa was worried, she could not fall asleep. She was worried for Gabby, she wondered what was wrong with her. She recalled memories of Gabby being really cheerful and she was even a cheer leader last time, but she gave up her position as a cheer leader to a random girl. Alyssa kept turning and tossing around in her bed to find a comfortable spot, but none of them were comfortable. Alyssa felt that there was something wrong that was about to happen, she felt a force pulling her that was trying to tell her something. Suddenly her door slowly swung open. "Anne?" Alyssa whispered under her breath.
"Alyssa... Do you feel the same thing that I am feeling...?" Anne questioned her with the softest voice she could, trying not to wake their parents up.
"You... You mean the feeling of something is not right and the feeling of something pulling you somewhere?" Alyssa stared at the ceiling and replied her while still lying in bed. Anne silently nodded. "Are you thinking of what I am thinking to do next?" Alyssa smiled, as she asked. Anne gave a smile that shows her she agrees that they should do that next.
Both of them grabbed their jackets to cover over their pajamas as they put on their shoes and slippers. They followed the direction the something was pulling them. As they walked, everything became more silent, there was lesser owls hooting, lesser sound of flapping wings made by the bats flying around. All the houses were dark, there was barley any light coming from them. There were only a few houses where faint light shone from their windows. Anne and Alyssa suddenly stopped. They reached their destination, they saw light coming from it.
...
Gabby could not control it she just decided to walk towards the cabin. As she walked the feeling of something is not right that she felt, grew stronger, she saw a faint shadow of two people in front of her, a shiver was sent down her spine. She was scared. She was terrified. She thought this was her end. She tried to hide behind the tree. Crack! Gabby had accidentally stepped on a random branch. She saw the two faint shadows turn their heads around, she knew she was dead meat. She slowly leaned against the tree as she slowly sat down, her fingernails were piercing into her head as she grabbed her head hard, uncontrollable tears streamed down a red cheeks as the sound of foot steps grew louder. She slowly closed her eyes. Suddenly, the sound of the footsteps stopped. Gabby opened her eyes although she did not mean to.
A blurred face bent down to look at Gabby. Before Gabby could see the face clearly, she shut her eyes, not wanting to see whatever it was and cried. "Please don't harm me I will do anything! Please have mercy!" She screamed.
"GABBY!" A familiar voice called out. "It is me!" Gabby slowly opened her eyes, she them saw that it was Anne.
"Oh my, I though I was going to die!" Gabby cried. "I am glad you guys are here... I-I was scared!"
"Then why did you come here?" Alyssa asked.
"...Something was pulling me here." Gabby mumbled.
Anne and Alyssa turned to look at each other, they then sighed. "We came here because we had the same reason as you, we just felt that something was not right." Alyssa said. Gabby's eyes widened.
Suddenly they urged to look at a certain direction. The force was pulling again. They turn their heads to look at the direction where the wood cabin was. A faint tall shadow that was estimated to be two metres tall was crawling in front of the cabin, it was almost three quarters of the wooden cabin's height. The tall faint shadow was dragging another smaller faint shadow out of the house. They thought the smaller shadow was some human or animal. The three girls were frightened. They instantly thought what they had just witnessed as a monster killing an animal or human. The monster they called it look really unhuman. They wanted to run but they knew that they would accidentally step on branches along the way and attract the monster's attention. Once that monster's attention is attracted no one knows what will happen to them, but it is likely they will be killed. There was only one choice left...
They slowly tip toed back out of the forests, making sure they did not step on any branches. It was hard for Alyssa as she lost a slipper along the way. Her feet were pricked with the thorns of the roots and stepped on many disgusting insects. It was unbearably pain and disgusting for Alyssa. Luckily Gabby wore boots while Anne wore her her daily school shoes. Not far from the freedom of being out of the forest, Anne's messy red hair was caught in some low branches. She almost screamed. They finally made it out after the horrifying journey they had in there. Not wanting their parents to realize they aren't home. Three of them scurried back to their homes.
Gabby sat on her bed with silence again. She could not possibly fall asleep after the fright she had gone through. She kept thinking about the tall faint shadow she saw. It look really unhuman. It's limbs bent in the opposite directions and crawled on the ground like some sort of spider, but it seemed to have only four limbs. It's head shape looked human. Just now when that monster was dragging another smaller figure out of the wooden cabin, which looked like a human, one of the limbs raised up and that limb looks like a human hand with unrealistically long fingers. The more Gabby thought about that monster, she wondered why did the force urge her and pulled her to go to the forest? Was there something that she needed to know? Is this a clue to something? Gabby was confused and scared again. In this silent night, she encountered a huge fright and a tall faint shadow, or should they call it... A monster.
