𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐅𝐄𝐋𝐓 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐀𝐍 eternity, trying and trying everything they could possibly think of, but it was no good. The boulder wouldn't move. They yelled into the cracks, tapped hard on the rock, they did everything they could think of to get a signal to Grover, but even if he heard them, they wouldn't be able to tell.

Even if by some miracle we managed to kill Polyphemus, it wouldn't do us any good. Grover and Clarisse would die inside that sealed cave. The only way to move the rock was to have the Cyclops do it. In frustration, Percy resorted to stabbing Riptide against the boulder, some sparks flew, but nothing else happened.

"I don't think that will work." said Iris as she sat down with Annabeth.

"Okay princess, what do you suggest?" asked Percy throwing a glare at the girl.

"Wow sarcasm, that's original Kelp Head." replied Iris with as much sarcasm as she could only for Percy to mock her.

The two were about to continue their fight when Annabeth interrupted them, "Could you guys please stop arguing for two minutes! Gods you sound like an old married couple." She whispered the last part hoping no one heard her.

But in fact, Iris did, and she glared at the girl.

The trio sat on the ridge in despair and watched the distant blue shape of the Cyclops as he moved among his flocks. He had wisely split up his regular animals from his man-eating sheep, putting each group on either side of the huge crevice that divided the beautiful island.

The only way across was the rope bridge, and the planks were much too far apart for sheep hooves. They watched as Polyphemus visited his carnivorous flock on the far side. But unfortunately, they didn't attack him and eat him. In fact, they didn't seem to bother him at all, which Iris thought was ridiculous. He fed them chunks of mystery meat from a great wicker basket.
