Coming with the MoonSong pack to attack the MoonLight pack was a terrible mistake. Not that I had not taken any worse choices, but this was the worst of this month and this month had barely begun.

Sometimes, I truly questioned myself about my choices, but what could I do? I was not Moon Blessed like Cailan Aresis. The male who thought he could have it all. And did have it all.

But the second he gave me that command to chase that she-wolf, I knew I would further regret coming tonight. Even Alpha Aresis, Cailan's father did not have a hold on me. I could have simply avoided coming here, but here I was.

I chased that female. Not just because Cailan had commanded me, but because of who she was to me. My potential mate. And that meant she was Cailan's potential mate too.

For some reason, we both shared our potential mates. I had my mate two years ago. I was going to name her my Luna, but then the MoonSong pack invaded and she died in the fight. No, she did not die fighting anyone or defending anyone. She died because she refused to be Cailan's female.

Raia died fighting Alpha Aresis himself whom she had pissed off.

I was left alive in my entire family and I knew the reason why. All the Alpha families of the packs MoonSong conquered were massacred, but I was left alive. Alpha of the DarkMoon pack. What an empty title.

Since then, Cailan had me close to him and in all the packs that MoonSong had conquered, Cailan took all his potential mates. My potential mates. But after Raia, I did not as much glance at another female. I knew how we both would end. With her dead and his claws on the last surviving members of my pack.

I trailed her heavenly scent and paused when she did. A few of her pack members left via a secret passage and she would have too had I not caught up with her.

Before MoonSong had planned to attack the MoonLight pack, I saw in the files. If my sources were not wrong, this female was Hesper Lowe, the third child of this pack's Alpha. Or rather, the sister of this pack's Alpha.

Then she looked at me with her bright eyes. Her eyes did not hold fear like I had seen in many Alphas' daughters. But I saw a rare streak of determination. Like she knew she was a member of the Alpha family and she would do anything, anything to save her pack. Even if doing that anything would destroy her.

How could I possibly bring this female who was standing in front of me like a mirror? A mirror who showed me from two years ago when I had been ready to do anything to save my pack.

Cailan may land his hand on her. He may get her in the end. If Cailan put in enough work, he could even get this female to fall for him and even Mark her as his queen. But he would not get her from me. Ryker or even Meira could bring her back to MoonSong, but not me.

I would give her a chance that I did not have.

Cailan had his eyes set on her and I knew he would do everything to get her to him, but if meant a few more days to her freedom, I would gladly give her. After all, I knew what it meant to stand on that side.

Before my rational mind could convince me to take a better option, I turned around and fled. As I said, the month had barely begun and I had already started taking my terrible choices.

If I brought her back, I could have saved a member of my pack or saved myself a punishment. But MoonLight would lose a Lowe if I had done that. MoonSong had perfected a way to break people in ways no wolf would have ever imagined.

"I asked you to bring me that she-wolf, Cortel," Cailan snarled. "Not tell me that she had out-smarted you and escaped."
