"You can't actually be serious right now," Olivia said, not liking the idea one bit.
"Yeah, we won't just let you kill yourself, Jesse," Axel added.
"Well, you're gonna have to. This is our best chance of killing him."
Lukas clenched his hands tightly into fists, not realizing how hard his fingernails were digging into his palms. "I won't stand for this. What you're saying is- crazy! After all, you've been through, you're just gonna give up?"
"How am I giving up? I'm doing this for you! All of you!" She said looking to each of her friends for some sort of reassurance.
The room went quiet, everyone still processing what Jesse had said.
"I'm asking you as my friends." Jesse's gaze hardened, folding her arms across her chest. "To support my decision."
"You're asking us to do something impossible then. How do you expect any of us to just... let you die." Petra's eyes darted to the floor, not wanting to look her friend in the eye.
Once again, a wave of silence passed. It's not like this is what Jesse wanted. She loves her friends so much. That's why she has to do this.
"I can do it," Aiden spoke up.
Heads turned to face him.
"It's the least I can do. After everything I did." He brought his hand to his arm, his trembling rather noticeable.
Inaudible murmurs are heard among them, some nodding at this suggestion. Everyone seemed to have no issue with this. Almost everyone.
"No." Jesse interrupted, her voice firm as ever. "I'm doing it. I already said, no one else is dying."
"Aiden offered himself! What's your deal? Do you have a death wish or something?" Petra said, letting out an exasperated sigh.
Jesse opened her mouth to protest, but closed it when she realized her friend was right. She knew that Petra had a very good point, but she also knew that being a leader means putting others first. No matter if they were deserving of it or not.
"I'm not letting Aiden die, regardless of what he has done. This is something I need to do!" Jesse didn't mean to yell at her friends, but it had already been done.
She felt bad, but she meant what she said. "This conversation is over."
With that, Jesse left the room, leaving her friends in utter shock.
...
She didn't have control of her actions anymore. The poor girl had too much stress. She just wanted it to be over. Maybe that's why she was so insistent on being the one to kill Herobrine. So that she could finally be at peace. So her fight could be over, once and for all. She immediately broke down in tears upon entering her room. She tried her best to keep quiet, not wanting the others to hear, but it was too hard. Her eyes were welling with tears, each one following the other down her cheek and onto the pillow. Jesse didn't realize how long she had spent sobbing until she noticed that the moon had replaced the sun in the sky. It had to have been hours. Her eyes stung, irritated from the number of tears she had shed that night. When she was finally able to calm down, she lay back in her bed, pulling the sheets to her chin. No matter how much she tossed and turned, she just couldn't fall asleep. Figures. Jesse threw the sheets off her and rolled out of bed. She walked past her mirror, hardly recognizing the person in front of her. Sure, her cheeks were extremely puffed up and her hair was a tangled mess, but that wasn't the part that disturbed her. Her eyes were lit in a blue glow, acting as a flashlight in the otherwise dark room. Jesse rubbed her eyes, almost positive that she was dreaming. But it didn't go away. She stood lifelessly as if she had just seen a ghost. Her eyes seemed as if they were about to burn holes through the mirror. Was that even her? Jesse slowly backed away, terrified of the reflection in front of her. She grabbed the closest object she could find, slamming it against the mirror with full force, causing it to shatter into pieces. She fell to the floor beside the shards, eyes wide with hatred at the mess she had made. Jesse remained on the floor, completely dazed. She didn't even hear the door to her bedroom open.
