Putting on his leather shoes and standing in front of the mirror, Briar was exceptionally pleased with what he saw.

Wearing a navy blue blazer, light pink shirt and nice trousers, he felt a confidence he hadn't experienced before. Looking mature and rather professional, even with his hastily braided hair, he couldn't wait to thank Stephen for the gift of clothing.

"You look handsome. Are you nervous?" Harlow asked, coming to stand behind him and wrap his arms around Briar's waist.

"A little, but I'm also excited. What are your plans for today?".

"Shower and shave then go job hunting. Can I call you on your lunch break?".

"Sure. And don't worry, you'll get lucky with a job soon".

Harlow hummed and peppered kisses to his lover's shoulder and up his neck, continuing to do so even as Briar laughed because his stubble tickled.

"Enough, I have to get going!" he managed to say, smiling widely at his boyfriend who pouted sadly.

"Aw. Well, good luck on your first day and try not overthink stuff".

"I know. And thank you".

And with a final kiss and grab of his house keys, Briar began walking to the pavement outside the apartment building to wait for his taxi.

Thing's had been going unbelievably well in his life within the last two weeks. Since that conversation with Quinn and Jesse, he had been a lot more open with them. Not everything was discussed, his escorting not something he wanted them to know. Partly because he was worried that the kindness he had been shown by them would turn to disgust, but mostly because he enjoyed that they didn't know that side of him. They knew the Briar he wanted to be and it felt too good to risk jeopardising. But they spoke about the small things, some stuff about his past and homeless period of life too but usually it was just meaningless stuff that kept them up late into the night.

And other than now having friends he could confide in and kept regular contact with through messaging and calls, Stephen had become more than a friend.

He had become Briar's boss.

A few days after returning home and to his regular life, Briar had found out that the reason Stephen had needed to leave for that emergency at work was because his fabric supplier had ended their agreement early and his assistant wasn't answering their phone- which he found out to be due to a heart attack. Severely stressed, over worked and with very little time left to complete his current project, Briar and the older gentleman had met up for lunch one afternoon and got to talking.

Stephen had mentioned planning to hold interviews for an assistant to help manage the tasks he didn't have time for but Briar knew that by the time his friend would find someone, his three week deadline would've been cut a little too close.

So he offered, surprising even himself, to temporarily help out until someone more qualified could be found- after all, he knew very little about being an assistant. But seeing Stephen's immense relief and gratitude had kept the instant regret he was expecting at bay. And now, on his first day almost a week later, he was unbelievably excited.

This wasn't a part time gig at a fast food restaurant or evening work with a woman laying beneath him, this was an actual job. Finally, Briar felt like an actual person doing something productive with his life.

Arriving at the studio and walking inside using the keypad code given to him, Briar could not stop looking at everything. On the walls were stunning photo's of models wearing Stephen's brand, the people and aesthetics in those photo's looking so beautiful it was awe-inspiring.
