The sun was shining brightly overhead but it did nothing to warm up the freezing thirty something degree temperature as Christian's loose-laced Timberlands thudded down the steps of the house's front porch and headed towards The Tahoe parked at the curb. Up and down the street the run down homes were decorated with Christmas lights and decorations as mostly older model cars rather than new, lined the curbs. On the grass, sidewalks and street was a couple inches of snow.
"Yo, what's good?" Christian asked as he opened the back passenger side door of the SUV and hopped inside. Immediately he unzipped his coat as he collided with the blaring heat circulating throughout the interior.
"Definitely not this weather," Sarah said from the passenger seat but with a smile.
"Wow, are y'all sure you've got it hot enough in here? It feels like a sauna."
"We're warm blooded creatures," Chad said from the driver's seat as he pulled away from the curb. "You know we can't take the cold."
Shaking his head, Cristian said, "So I see."
"I'd give anything to be lying on the beach back home right now," Sarah told him.
"I second that," Chad agreed.
"Tanning."
"With an ice cold beer sitting beside me."
"I'd prefer a glass of wine."
"To each his own."
"What?" Christian asked as if in disbelief. "And miss all this beautiful winter weather? This right here is what the holidays are all about. This is that kind of weather that makes a man out of you."
Turning onto a busy street, Chad said, "Well if this is what being a man is all about, I'll gladly hand around my adolescents for a little while longer."
"You guys just gotta get used to it."
Shaking her head in disagreement, Sarah said, "Would take the beach, sunshine and the ocean over this anytime."
"Awww, toughen up, ladies and gentlemen."
Both Chad and Sarah were sipping from steaming Styrofoam cups of coffee. The two of them were from California so neither of them took to cold weather too well. Although they'd been in Cleveland during most of the winter, it was still taking a lot for them to get used to.
Chuckling, Christian said, "This right here is nothing. It's supposed to drop below zero tonight. A storm's coming through also."
