I'm slipping my clothes on for school without really thinking. I give a long yawn before I put on my sweater, walking down my stairs. My eyes flick over to the window to my left. It's still dark out. I pick up my backpack and creep out the door as to not disturb my mother. The outside smells like the morning dew, the icy wind creeping against my exposed skin. I shuttered and walked to the school. It was a good ways away from my house, around a good three miles. My shoes kicked and dragged against the dirt paved roads. The town apparently never had the time(nor money) to pave itself some roads, only the main ones existed.I arrived to school around a hour from when I left. The sun was creeping up from the hillside northeast from the old school building. The school was basically crumbling, it's been here since god knows how long. Rumors say it's hundreds of years old, some say they it's been here since the beginning of time. The deep cracks in the faced rose colored building were spread everywhere. The school board made up of a relatively small amount of people than most schools didn't even try to fix the old cracks in the buildings. Most kids lived here so long they could detect where the cracks were in the building even with their eyes shut.
Once I got into the building, I saw Max. Max was the only guy I didn't see as a complete entire ass in this school, but he was definitely a bit strange. He had curly orange hair that went down a bit further of the back of his neck. His eyes were a dark green and his slightly tanned skin was coated in freckles. He had a bandage over his nose, and by his words he claimed that, it was to hide the huge bump in his nose he got while fighting a boy in his class.(he is a huge liar, he's had his nose bent from when he was a kid. I feel like he forgets we've been friends since we were toddlers, but I digress,) His nose holds a spectrum piercing that I wonder where he even got, but whatever. Today he was wearing a white tank top and some discolored jeans with his high top black sneakers.
"Hey Thee, how are you doing? Aren't you finally happy summer is over?" He smiled, the gap in his teeth more prominent today than earlier in the summer. I thought for a moment before letting out my response. "Yeah, I'm happy summer is over!" That was a lie, I seem to do that a lot when I don't want to hurt someone's feelings. I also seem to forget he doesn't get upset at my opinions. "You know you don't need to lie about that, right? That's like- the most stupidest thing to lie about." He leaned against the drywall as I gave him a nod of understanding. Max was a good person and a even better friend.
"Do you think anybody new is going to come this year?" He blurted out suddenly. I turned to him, confused. Nobody new ever came to this town, much less the school. The town didn't even appear on any maps that I had searched on. I was about to answer with the obvious answer, but the girl I had seen a few weeks before came into mind. I thought about her hazel eyes and pink, fluffy hair and closed my mouth. I gave him a quick shrug. He knew not to question me more about it.
The doors opened up and kids seemed to slowly flood into the hallways. Chatter filled the building, echoing and bouncing off of each other like stray bullets. Many people walked over to Oliver and I, greeting us and making small talk. I was well known, definitely not popular but people knew me enough to talk with me often. As I talked with Oliver, my eyes spotted a unfamiliar face. It was a girl with pink hair tied into a bun with curtain bangs and fluffy side bangs. She wore a long, green dress that nearly touched the floor with a soft blue cardigan. Her earrings were hanging clouds and her shoes were boosted blue sneakers. People turned their heads to look at her, confused at the new face. Their faces all scrunched up as if to simultaneously say at the same time,
"What? Who's she?"She seemed unaware of all the attention she was getting as she walked through the hallways. My face dropped into horror when I saw her. She saw my face, what if she recognizes me? Or worse- what if she tells the whole school that I, Thea Morrins, am a creep who likes to stalk women through windows? Just then, both the bell and Oliver were my saviors. The bell rang loudly, causing Oliver to look straight at me. "So what classes do you have Thee?" I walk away with Oliver, hopefully not to be seen by the pink haired girl.
