I slept in late the next morning and awoke to the sound of thunder. Nanami had already left for school and I found Tomoe on the patio gazing into an oncoming storm cloud.

He turned his head ever so slightly in my direction and spoke, his tone even and betraying no emotion. "You're awake. Good. It seems we will have a guest soon. An unhappy one from the looks of it."

He then turned to face me fully. "You overslept. Nanami went to school alone today."

I yawned. "Oh you worry too much. She's fine on her own. It's just high school, whats the worst that could happen?"

"I do hope you don't come to eat those words Y/N" the fox sighed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Turns out shit did hit the fan, or was about to. Tomoe came running through the shrine to find me teaching card games to the shrine spirits.
"Y/N we need to get to the school right away!" He shouted "Nanami may be in trouble!"
Nope I'm not leaving this shrine.
"Go rescue her on your own if you think she needs it. I'm telling you, you worry too much!" I huffed and turned back to my game.
Tomoe sputtered behind me before running off. The shrine spirits shared a look and followed him.
I sighed and muttered, "Everyone is so dramatic. But Tomoe's a big boy and can handle himself so I'm sure it will all be fine."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yeah shit definitely hit the fan. About fifteen minutes after Tomoe left a tremor ran through the entire shrine and I felt the ever present pressure on my wrists snap. Moments later the front doors burst open and there stood a terrifyingly beautiful woman who was obviously a goddess with a triumphant smile painting her lips.

It turned sour when she caught sight of me.

"You're new." The woman stated evenly. Then raised a large wooden mallet looking thing as if to strike me.

I instantly dropped my cards and dived out the nearest window.

I needed to find Nanami and Tomoe asap.
Good thing my nose seemed to be sharper than it had been for some reason.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I found them the same time Kurama did.
They were a pathetic sight. Both huddled in a strangers doorway and soaking we from the rain. Tomoe seemed to be in the form of a child and Nanami was without her gods mark.
Me and Kurama shared a look and decided to put the past behind us. The crow tengu took us to his mansion to formulate a plan.
Nanami explained the situation once we got there. Apparently the woman was Narukami, a thunder goddess, and she had a thing for Tomoe. She took the shrine for herself and is waiting for Tomoe to return to it to be her familiar. I rolled my eyes at the whole situation, because of course the fox had a jealous goddess admirer.
I tuned into the conversation happening just as Nanami asked Kurama how to find a yokai doctor for Tomoe.
"I'm afraid that won't help much." The crow said. "Tomoe's been regressed in body only, so his original yokai powers cant settle in. They're out of his control, and that's whats causing his fever."
"Exactly," I said, pushing off the wall I had been leaning on. "He may look like a child now. But power-wise he's a fully grown yoaki. The two aren't compatible."
"Then..." Nanami started
"He wont get better unless he's restored to his original body." Kurama finished.
