James:
We all went back inside after seeing one of our members dead and I guided Nick to his room as he was still reeling from it and not stable on his feet. I helped him out of his clothes before helping him into bed, I then headed to my bed before hearing him say "stay."
I whipped around so fast I thought I might have gotten whiplash "what?"
He opened his eyes a little "stay with me. I really don't want to be alone tonight."
I nodded although I wasn't sure that he was looking anymore "always." I spoke as I got into bed with him and wrapped my arms around him as he laid his head on my chest. I looked down at him "I'll always stay with you. I'm not leaving you again, never." I kissed his forehead before I fell into a fitful sleep trying to keep Pete's dead body out of my head.
I woke up in the morning next to Nick who looked at me confused before saying "you stayed."
I nodded "of course. I told you that I wasn't leaving anytime soon. Matter of fact I'm not leaving without you." Nick looked me in the eye and smiled before pulling me closer to him making me smile even more. I laid there for a minute before remembering that Nick was starting to let me back in making me feel hopeful about our relationship.
We headed to the great room to see Pete's ashes in an urn on the table and I saw Nick flinch a little before we all stood around talking about Pete and how he had impacted our lives. I felt Nick reach for my hand, I looked straight ahead trying to keep from smiling at the feel of Nick's hand in mine again. We were all standing in the great hall and drinking to Pete when suddenly we heard a howl from outside.
Nick and Elena both growled before taking off, we all followed after them and I watched as Elena and Nick stopped in front of a tree where Pete's jacket was hanging on the branch and I heard Nick growl again. Antonio and the others came to us before saying "by the time we change to find him it'll be too late."
Jeremy nodded taking Pete's jacket from Elena "Antonio's right tonight we mourn for Pete, tomorrow we hunt." He walked away and I watched as Clay and Nick had a silent conversation making me slightly jealous of how easy their conversation was and how close they were but I knew that I had no right.
While Clay and Elena went out for a run which I had a feeling were not going to go as well as Clay thought. I stayed in the great room with Nick and Logan who spoke quietly about things. I noticed that Nick was getting worked up and animated about Pete so I stood up next to him so that I was shoulder to shoulder with him. I felt him move a little bit closer and I smiled before it was announced that Jeremy wanted to meet us in the great room causing Nick to pull away from me and me to miss his body heat.
Nick sat down in an arm chair next to Logan's and I sat on the chair arm with him. I saw Nick glance at me before smiling slightly making me smile seeing him like that. I had always loved his smile especially after sex he was also so cocky then as well which made me hot and heavy. Now probably wasn't the best time to go over it.
Jeremy stood at his desk "I've sent Antonio to deal with Pete's loose ends and to bring the other packs up to speed. We have two mutts to deal with; Nick you and Logan go to the flop house where the first mutt lived and try to identify him. Turn it upside down, wipe it clean when you're finished."
Nick nodded as Logan spoke up "I'm supposed to be speaking at a psychology thing in Toronto tonight."
"I can handle the flop house by myself," Nick spoke to Jeremy reassuring him.
"Ok," Jeremy nodded to Nick "I want you to be very careful all of you. We thought the threat was over when the first mutt died and Pete paid for our mistake. We know better now, Clay and Elena I want you two to go into town, assess the mood of the locals. More importantly, I want you to see if you can track the scent of the killer."
