Beep Beep Beep Bee- I stopped my annoying alarm clock. I noticed my room was darker than usual, when I heard the thunder right outside my window. Great. It's raining and I still have to walk to the library.
I grabbed my phone from the table besides my bed and relief washed over me when I realized it was Saturday, which meant I didn't have to go to the library after all, but I still decided to get up anyways. I got out of my bed and headed towards the bathroom. I took a quick, warm shower, dried myself, and changed into some casual clothes- a blue tee, black skinny jeans, blue vans, and an American Horror Story beanie. I have to admit, my personality may suck but my style isn't bad at all.
I made my way to the living room, and grabbed my wallet, house keys, and an umbrella, then headed towards the door. I felt a cool breeze when I walked outside and onto my porch. It seemed like a perfect day to go for a run in the beautiful city of San Diego, so I did.
While making my way down the street, I decided I would stop by at my favorite coffee shop before the end of my run. After a few more blocks, the coffee shop started to come into view, but something else also caught my eye. I turned my attention to the building across the café, to see a crowd rapidly forming in front of it. Curiously, I pushed my way through the crowd and finally discovered what everyone was so interested in.
A black-haired pale-ish boy was standing at the edge of a three-story building, and from the looks of it, he seemed hesitant to jump. I instantly felt empathy for the boy. Why? Because I know what's like to want to leave this world without ever looking back.
My mind started drifting back to the times I wish I could forget, but I was pulled away from my thoughts as the sounds of panic flooding through the crowd, now had my attention turned to the boy on the roof. I looked up just in time to see what everyone was panicking about. The boy had slipped while walking along the border of the building, but fortunately, he fell inwards towards the building, which made him land back on the roof floor. However, that little slip sent my heart on a race, and it was determined to win.
Without thinking twice I ran towards the back of the building. Once inside, I made my way to one of the doors that said "stairs" and began running as fast as my short legs could take me. I reached the top floor and stopped for a second to catch my breath, then immediately headed towards the door labeled, "ROOF".
Carefully, and as quietly as I could, I managed to open the door. However, my attempt in trying to be silent failed because the door slammed shut behind me. The boy on the roof jumped in surprise and turned around. I noticed he was thin, had pale skin, ocean blue-green eyes, and raven black hair with length that stretched to his jawline. I also noticed he had been crying because his eyes were red and puffy. I stared into his eyes, which reflected fear that matched his shocked facial expression.
"Hey.. Hey come here, I'll help you.." I said softly and compassionately. "No! Stay away from me or I won't hesitate to jump!" he shouted between sobs. Desperate to get him off that roof, I started moving towards him and decided to talk to him in a way he would actually listen. "Hey. My name is Vic.." I started. He didn't respond so I continued, "I know exactly how you're feeling right now.." I was hesitant to tell him that I attempted suicide several times before, but decided not to for it might trigger his mind. The boy opened his mouth, but closed it again in an instant. He opened his mouth again and a sob escaped his lips. Tears started streaming down his face like a waterfall. I felt a lump in my throat because i knew exactly how he felt and memories of when I was in his position started flooding back.
No Vic, this is not the time for memories, you have someone who needs you. I pushed my memories aside and looked at the boy. He had turned away from me and was now gazing over the edge of the building, as if second-guessing his choices.
"Hey," I said softly. He turned and held my gaze, his eyes shining sadly. "I can save you, if you give me a chance." I said. His eyes quickly gained a look of anger, but his facial expression was as if he was amused by what I had just suggested. He laughed. "What? Why do you feel as if you can save me, when I can't even save me from myself?" he said. I was a little taken aback by his response, but then again I probably would have said something similar. Surprisingly, he spoke again, "How can I go on living? I'm just a lost soul. Why do you even care of I'm dead or not? You don't even know anything about me or why I need to do this!" He yelled, the tears streaming down his face again and mixed emotions showing through his eyes.
I wanted to just grab him and pull him away from the ledge but I held back the urge. "You don't need to do this, there are always other options.." I started. He shook his head and sat himself down towards the edge of the building, which made me very uneasy. "Not for me. There is no other choice. I have been through too much and I can't take it anymore. But, you wouldn't understand because you don't know me so please leave me alone to do this." he said while staring down at his hands.
The next words that came out of my mouth took the boy, and even myself by surprise. "Maybe we can fix that. You said that I wouldn't understand unless I knew you.. So let me get to know you." The boy looked up from the ground and held my gaze, his eyes gleaming with curiosity, and a hint of doubt. "So.. What do you say?" I asked. He stared at me, as if inspecting me, for what seemed like forever. He nodded slowly, like he was unsure.
I was so desperate to get him away from that ledge that I walked towards him and grabbed him arm lightly, but he flinched away. I stepped back a few steps. Suddenly, his facial expression went blank and he stood up, only to fall towards me. I quickly leaned forward to catch him, and then layed him down on the floor. What had just happened? Did he faint or something? After checking for and finding a pulse, I picked up his limp body and took him down the stairs and outside the building in my arms. The police and paramedics that were outside waiting ran towards me. I handed the boy to the tallest paramedic, and turned to tell the cop everything that had just happened. After my explanation, I watched as they loaded the boy into the ambulance. I quickly ran over to the vehicle and asked the paramedic if I could go with him to the hospital and she just nodded, so I climbed inside and observed the boy. I studied him carefully, wondering what triggered suicidal thoughts into his mind.A/N: HEY EVERYONE!
