"And here we have the Dream ladies and gentleman, careful to not seize eye contact. They say it can see your inner demons" the tour guide explained. He was a tall man with a circus hat.
Tommy looked at the human sized glass cage on a podium. A man was sitting on the floor inside. He was wearing black human clothes but had different leather strapped around his body. It looked weird, but that wasn't the weirdest part. Upon closer look, he didn't have a face. It was as if somebody had stretched out a sheet on top of the face, except it was only skin.
The Museum of Freaks was really something else. At first Tommy didn't want to come, but in the end Wilbur had finally convinced him.
Suddenly the man leaned towards Tommy. The blank face changed to Tommy's face as he screamed "boo". Tommy took a step back. That creature was no man. The tour group laughed in amusement.
"Wilbur, wilbur!" Tommy cried out, having lost him in the group. He was surrounded by adults.
"Relax Tommy, he can't hurt you, he's trapped in there," Wilbur sounded behind him. Tommy ran into a hug.
"This is scary Wilbur"
"It's like a spider, if you never see it, how do you know you are scared of it?"
Tommy continued the tour holding Wilburs hand. The Dream was the scariest creature. It was also one of the few living creatures the museum had in holding.
"And here is our latest arrival Rose".
The glass cage had branches of leaves hanging down from the top, but otherwise it matched The Dream's cage entirely. Inside a small and fragile woman stood leaning against the wall. Her clothes were broken and she was crying.
The tour guide gave the glass a bang, and the woman folded out pink wings, like a butterfly. Out of shock she used them, bumped into the ceiling and fell to the ground.
The tour group clapped.
"See Tommy, maximum security," Wilbur looked so confident. Tommy looked behind and saw a glimpse of the Dream creature. He had changed position and was back to having no face, yet Tommy could feel his stare. He squeezed Wilbur's hand.
"There are only two more creatures we have to see, it will soon be over," he patted Tommy's head. Even though he hated it, when Wilbur did it, he was too scared to say something.
"The next creature is something else. We still have much to learn in spite of it being the first living creature in our possession" the group followed the guide to a new glass cage.
Inside was not a human looking creature but a big pile of green slime.
The guide pressed some buttons next to the cage's podium, and a black drop fell from the cage's ceiling.
The green goo immediately made a circle around the drop and splashed up on the edges. Slowly it built a tower, making a small air bubble emerging from the floor where the black liquid layed. Then it changed shape; a heart, a star and lastly a doughnut.
"We have been training it, Slime is its current name" the tour guide smiled, "now let's visit our greatest accomplishment."
They reached a big cage, much much wider than the others.
"The lightning shark creature"
It was a much larger cage with bottled metal at the edges. Inside was an 8 feet tall creature. It was wearing a white dress. It looked like a human, but with grey skin and multiple fins running down its back. It stood in the very back corner crossing its arms.
Again the guide banged on the glass, but the creature just hissed at him, showing off a whole grith of pointed shark teeth.
The guide pressed on some buttons and a red liquid fell from the cage's ceiling on top of the creature.
Too late the creature reacted and fell to the floor when it hit it. Then electric static noise sounded.
Suddenly white lightning exploded from the creature inside the cage.
The audience clapped again.
"This is the best part Tommy," Wilbur said, satisfied.
"I'm done, I wanna look at the non scary things"
"your call" Wilbur just shrug his shoulders.
Tommy left Wilbur and the group. As he passed the cages again, he couldn't help but feel sorrow for the creatures being trapped. Until he reached the Dream. Its face stayed blank, but Tommy knew its capabilities.
"Ha, you don't know shit," it laughed, with no mouth to see, as if it had read his thoughts.
Tommy ignored it and ran to the historic room. Inside were small collectibles and a couple statues, but most importantly, no living creatures. Some of the statues were old, others new, based on people's descriptions. Although most of them looked normal at first glance, once you came closer, you could see what was wrong.
Sometimes it was an eye, an extra limb and sometimes you had to read the paper next to the statues to understand.
Suddenly the lights went out. It went completely dark. Tommy screamed out for Wilbur.
"Oh, he can't hear you,'' an unfamiliar voice sounded. Tommy looked around, but couldnt see anything.
"over here" a small flame appeared in the sky for a short moment. Tommy was ready to pee his pants.
"So, did he scare you," it suddenly sounded from behind. Tommy turned around just in time to see the flame go out again.
"don't kill me," Tommy finally stuttered.
"Oh, I'm not the one you should be worrying about," the voice was very close.
Tommy cried.
"you're no fun, why was I left as the babysitter?" a big flame lit up and showed a man in black clothes and a belt filled with different kinds of weapons. He was holding the flame in his hands.
Tommy cleared his throat, "you're one of them," he whispered.
"yeah yeah, just stay here alright" The creature turned off the flame.
"Why are you here?" Tommy muttered, not crying anymore.
no reply.
The Dream creature knew what was coming, Tommy thought to himself.
"you're breaking him out," Tommy smiled, having pieced it all together.
"So? Who's gonna stop us?" The man's voice sounded a bit further away.
Tommy went silent. There were more creatures.
"Thought so" the man laughed to himself.
Suddenly a loud alarm started and Tommy screamed.
The man sighed, "you're such a baby,".
Suddenly the Dream's voices sounded.
"Come on Sapnap we're leaving"
Tommy screamed louder. How could nobody hear him?
"Finally, did you get it," The man called Sapnap answered.
Dream laughed, "I didn't let myself get locked up for weeks for nothing"
"We got 5 minutes before they wake up" a new voice sounded.
Then all the voices went silent. Tommy couldn't hear their footsteps, but shortly after he heard the sound of closing doors. He sank to the floor. He probably should do something but he was too scared.

Minutes that felt like hours passed, until the alarm finally went off and the lights flickered back on.

Tommy screamed out for Wilbur again.

"Tommy?" Wilbur's voice sounded from the other room.
"Wilbur!" Tommy screamed. Wilbur came running through the door and lifted Tommy in his arms. Tommy immediately started crying and hugged Wilbur.

"You're okay now, come we're going home" Wilbur carried Tommy to the museum's exit. Once they were outside a different alarm started.

Tommy started shaking.

"Don't worry it was just a power glitch"

Tommy looked around, something seemed wrong. He was sure of it, but couldn't find the right words.
