Nyla's POV:

I had been running from them for a while. I don't know exactly who they are or why they want me. I suppose perhaps they want me because of my curse. Either way, there are nicer ways of getting what you want.

Setting a livestock barn on fire and destroying a small vegetable garden isn't the way to get it.

It had been two days since I left Iowa. I was nearing Louisiana now. I hoped to see if I could find some real witches who could help me find out who's after me and why.

An old friend from college, Camille, said she'd help me out once I arrived. So I headed to her place, music playing softly from my radio while I tried to keep myself calm.

I had plenty of protection spells and hex bags in case anyone tried to track me down with magic. As far as anyone would know, my last known appearance through locator spells should show that I'm still in Iowa.

I might be young but I know how to protect myself. And that's exactly what I plan to do. I even had protection spells on my kitten I found in Missouri.

The kitten was currently perched on my shoulder. He was looking around before deciding to just relax and go to sleep on my shoulder. He was maybe two or three months old. He was small, with grey fluffy fur, and grey brown eyes. I named him Ghost.

It was nearing sunrise when I made it to town. The sign: Welcome to New Orleans, greeted me.

Camille POV:

Early in the morning, there was a knock on my door. I had just gotten home from work about thirty minutes ago. So many broken glasses and chairs to throw out.

"I swear Nicklaus, this better be imp-oh, Nyla! I'm sorry, come on in!" I quickly changed my voice from annoyed to embarrassed.

Nyla raised a brow as she walked in,"Who's Nicklaus? Do I need to go beat someone up for you, CC?"

I shook my head and repressed a laugh, "No, nothing to worry about, Ny."

Nyla could definitely handle herself in a fight, I just didn't want her fighting an Original vampire her first day here.

Though she might have a slight chance.

She is a fairly powerful witch. And she's in pristine shape. She has enough muscle that it's visible when her arms flex, and she was on a kicking boxing team during college.

She even looked frightening if it wasn't for the polite smile. Nyla was 5'8'' and had piercings and tattoos. Her lip has two 'snake bites' and her left ear has a small piercing. She has a tattoo on her chest barely peeking over the opening of her button up shirt that had the top three buttons unbuttoned. The tattoo was a panther from what I could see. She also has tattoos on her arms, not currently visible due to the shirt.

Her hair was a short black pixie style. Her natural hair color was actually dark brown. Her eyes are a strange golden green color.

"So, I just got off work about an hour ago, but I have someone who's supposed to meet us there tonight to help you find a place to stay and hide out. I already told him your situation and he's offered to help as long as you help him protect/babysit his niece."

Nyla smiled sheepishly, "That sounds like a very good deal to me. You know how I always got along with the kids at the daycare in college. I actually missed that job.." her words got quieter with that last sentence.

I sat beside her on my couch, just now realizing a small kitten sitting on her shoulder, and I took her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, "I remember, I also told Elijah about your work history at the daycare and your history in kickboxing. And perhaps some of your protection magick. He was impressed. So, he agreed to help. If you'd help him," Nyla gave me a look when I mentioned I had told him about her magick, "Don't worry about your powers. His eldest sister is a witch. No need to worry about him reacting to your magick. If you need to worry about something, I'd worry more about getting along with his brother, the father of the child you'll be babysitting/guarding. He's got some...anger issues to put it lightly."
Nyla nodded her head, then she suddenly looked at me, "What about my kitten? Ghost?" She asked.
