Niklaus' POV:

I was well aware of Elijah meeting someone that Camille recommended highly for a babysitter and magic tutor. I of course planned to interrogate her and threaten her with an eternity of torture if one hair on my daughter's head was harmed.

Regardless, when Elijah returned with a dark haired punk looking woman, my hackles were already rearing and on edge. Which I know is very judgmental of me but what can I say? I'm old.

I flashed outside to meet them.

Elijah pinched his nose, barely refraining from sighing in exasperation.

A small grey fur ball jumped from the woman's shoulder and landed on her head.

I squinted at it in confusion before realizing it was a small kitten.

"Brother, who is this woman and the furball with her?" I questioned with a raised brow while looking her over for weapons and perhaps also checking her out.

Sue me.

I clocked a gun strapped to her ankle; her bell bottom Jeans were resting oddly on her left ankle.

She fiddled with the throwing knives strapped to her right thigh awkwardly with her hand before nodding slightly at me.

"My name is Nyla. The furball is a kitten named Ghost. I'm a friend of Camille's. And I'm here with Mr. Elijah Mikaelson to meet his brother and niece. I reckon that you are the brother, Niklaus, correct?" She glared when I nodded.

I raised a brow, "Why do you seem upset with me? We just met," I chuckled.

"You," she stepped forward and nearly growled out,"Should back off from Camille," sparks flashed at her fingertips but her hands stayed at her sides, a flash of blue lighting went through her golden eyes.

I raised a brow and smirked, "I applaud the bravery, but I'd advise against ever fighting me. I'm quite powerful."

Elijah stayed silent but he clenched his jaw and gave me a look. Oh, so she must be fairly powerful as well.

"Well, since introduction and threats are over with- wait, I haven't threatened you yet," I smiled evilly, "You hurt one hair on Hope's head and I will turn you into a vampire and torture you for eternity. Got it?"

She didn't even blink or go pale, which was unsettling that I didn't even cause her heart rate to go up. But she nodded.

"Sir, yes, sir!" She saluted before politely smiling, "I've babysat for many people and regardless of how hellish the parents or children were, the worst I've ever done is quit the job. So, I promise to never harm your child, I swear it upon my soul, upon the river of Styx, and upon the goddess Nött," thunder boomed suddenly and a lightning bolt struck the ground nearby moments after her words.

"Well," I raised a brow to Elijah, silently telling him we need to talk about this one, before smiling politely to the girl, "lovely to meet you, Nyla. Elijah will show you to your room and I will let Hope know her new tutor and nanny has arrived. Supper is at 8 but you will be meeting Hope in the Garden with myself and Elijah at 7:45. I expect you to be there."

And then I left to get Hope ready to meet Nyla.

Nyla's POV:

I believe the swearing on both the river of Styx and Nött was a bit overkill but I figured the gesture wouldn't go unnoticed. I plan to keep my vows.

"I'm a person of my word, Elijah," I stated calmly moments after Niklaus left, "Hope will be safe with me, or may I die protecting her."

Elijah nodded, "Thank you. Though I will have you know, my brother is quite serious about eternal torture."

I shrugged, "Well, I needn't worry 'bout it."

Elijah smiled a small smile and nodded, "Follow me, Miss Nyla, I'll show you to your room. And I shall fetch you at 7:30 to meet Hope."

I glanced at my watch and sighed, it was 7:25 already.

I nodded and followed as Elijah led the way.

☆☆☆☆☆

Hope Mikaelson was a firecracker to say the least.

As Elijah led me to where his brother and niece were located, I could already hear Klaus before I saw them.

"Hope Mikaelson! Quit that right now!"

"No!" A little girl, who I soon saw, was floating a foot above her father's head and chasing a butterfly while giggling as he tried to catch her by the feet and missed.

I took a deep breath to keep myself calm. Klaus was clearly already stressed enough for the whole county.

I signed using ASL butterfly. And with my magic and the hand gesture I summoned a glittering crystal-like pink butterfly.

I made it fly to the little girl and stayed just out of reach until she was flat foot on the ground and holding the butterfly.

Klaus let out a sigh of relief and gave me a grateful look once he saw us approaching.

"Hope, I'd like you to meet Nyla," the little girl looked at me with annoyed eyes but when I summoned another butterfly she smiled at me, "she will be your new teacher."

She waved with her free hand, "Hi, ma'am. Thank you for the butterflies. Did you make them with magic?"

I smiled, "You can call me Nyla, ma'am is not needed. And yes," I summoned another pink one and sent it to Klaus' head. He glared at me but left it there, "I made them with magic."

She stood, putting the crystal pink butterfly on her shoulder, before asking, "Can you show me?"

I looked to Klaus for permission and he shrugged. I sat down on the ground and Hope moved closer and sat in front of me.

"Lesson one, find the center of your magic. Now, mine is in my mind, some people hold their magic in their gut, their heart, their hand, their ear, etcetera."

Hope nodded and closed her eyes for a moment before opening them, "I feel it in my heart."

I nodded, "Good, now," I lifted my hands from my lap, "every witch uses different means to strengthen their magic or make a spell. I use ASL, which is a language of hand motions," Hope nodded so I continued, "This motion is for a butterfly," I signed it and no butterfly appeared, causing Hope to frown, "now, no butterfly was summoned because I wasn't tapping into my magic. Lesson two, tapping into your magic."

She smiled, "I know how to use my magic!" She exclaimed.

I nodded and smiled in return, "Yes, so this shouldn't be too awfully hard, but if it doesn't work I'll show you another way, okay?"

She nodded and waited with a look of seriousness.

"So, focus on the center of your magic and pull some of it to your fingers, just enough to make them tingle," green glitter shot from her fingers, "a little less," I said when she huffed in frustration, "once you manage that, imagine a butterfly in your hand. It doesn't have to look like mine, you can make any butterfly you want."

After a few moments of tense silence and Klaus shifting his feet nervously, a large glittering butterfly with wings made of green feathers appeared in her small hands.

She smiled and giggled as she made it fly around her head and into her dad's face. Elijah and I both chuckled when Niklaus flared his nose and huffed but chuckled at his daughter's antics.
