It was time for my 6 week appointment. I got ready like normal. The kids all stayed home with my mom and Nicolas. Nicholas couldn't go with me today because he had an important work meeting through Zoom. And it was a really great opportunity so I told him that it was okay that I could handle it. Nicolas had his driver drive me to my appointment today. He walked me out to the car and opened the door.
"Goodmorning," the driver said.
"Goodmorning Brad. How is your wife?" I asked.
"She is great. Thank you for asking. Are you ready to go?" He said.
"Yes"
I gave Nicholas a kiss and waved at my kids goodbye as we headed out.
Brad put on my favorite music. I was singing and laughing.
We were at the four way stop when...
"WATCH OUT!" I yelled.
That's when it happened. An 18 wheeler made a turn way wider and hit our car. The 18 wheeler was on top of us.
"Brad! Brad! Where are you? Are you okay?"
Silence.
"Brad, please answer me."
I heard sirens.
But I could smell blood. I tried to look at my hands but it was just so dark.
The 18 wheeler moved down on top of us.
"Somebody please help!" I yelled.
Pain. I felt it everywhere. Then again the 18 wheeler moved down some more. I cried. Why could I hear the sirens but no one was there yet.
"Hello! Help!" I yelled at the top of my lungs.
"Someone is alive under there!" I heard someone say.
Then I heard footsteps as if multiple people were running.
I saw flashlights pointing into the car. That's when I saw Brad. He was gone. Something impaled him and it went through his seat. I could see his hand when blood pouring down it. My heart broke.
That's when I saw it. The wheel was pushing down on my right shoulder and I was partially impaled by the same object that impaled Brad on my left side. My arm was definitely broken. I looked down and the whole back seat was full of blood. My blood.
I began to cough and blood was coming out.
"She's badly hurt. We need to get her out now." I heard somebody say.
"There's an object that's through her left ribs."
"We need to get this truck off!"
"If we get the truck off it may collapse on her in the process"
"What's your name?" A firefighter asked.
"Allison. My name is Allison Galitzine."
"Wait. Like Nicholas Galitzine."
"That's my husband. We are staying about two blocks away."
Bloody tears ran down my eyes.
"I'm bleeding" I told the firefighter.
"It's okay we're going to get you out."
"I'm bleeding from everywhere blood can come out. The back seat is full of blood."
In the background I heard.
"I don't think she's going to make it, she has blood coming from everywhere."
"She's super pale."
"Someone needs to call her husband before we move anything."
"Allison! Let me go! That's my wife's car! Allison!"
It was Nicholas. His voice sounded shaky and scared.
"I'm okay!" I exclaimed.
"No you're not." Nicholas cried.
"I love you. If I don't make it, you have to make sure all the kids stay okay!"
I heard him softly cry.
"Okay?!" I exclaimed.
"Okay" he said. "I love you."
"Forever."
"I'm going to cut the object first and then I need to pop this tire." Said the firefighter.
"Can he stay close so I can hear his voice?" I asked.
"Yes."
"Nicholas sing to me."
I heard him cry and take a deep breath.
"I found a love
for me (sniffles)
darling,
just dive right in
and follow my lead (voice gets shaky)
Well, I found a girl,
beautiful (shakingly sings)
and sweet
I never knew
you were the someone
waiting for me"
He stops and cries.
Takes a big deep breath.
"Cause we were just kids"
Takes another deep breath.
"when we fell in love
Not knowing what it was
I will not give you up this time."
He starts to cry a lot.
"But darling,
just kiss me slow, your heart is all I own
And in your eyes, you're holding mine"
He paused and cried out.
Then I heard another voice sing,
"Baby, I'm dancing in the dark with you between my arms
Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favourite song
When you said you looked a mess, I whispered underneath my breath
But you heard it, darling, you look perfect tonight"
I heard Nicholas cry and he kept repeating thank you.
At that point the object was cut and the tires popped.
"I can't loose her!" I heard Nicholas cry out.
"We have kids! Promise you will do everything to save her!"
The firefighter picked up my arms and I screamed.
And he pulled. As he pulled me out the back I screamed as my back was getting cut with glass and my arms were breaking in multiple places.
"Hold on, Allison. Just hold on. I know it hurts. But pain is good." Said a firefighter.
Blood was pouring out everywhere.
Right when the bottom of my feet came out the back the 18 wheeler crushed the rest of the car.
I began to cough and blood was just coming out.
The grabbed me and put me on the stretcher.
"Hurry, her lung might be collapsing. There's blood everywhere. I can't see where it's coming from" exclaimed the EMS.
I began to feel tugging on my eyes but they felt so heavy.
"Stay awake!" The EMS were yelling at me.
"Don't close your eyes."
Then I heard banging. "Hurry. She's about to crash."
I heard a sound. Like I was flatlining. And everything moved in slow motion.
And then everything went black.
