He was way too nervous and scared you might reject him so he never confessed. You notice this so when you two were talking during lunch you confessed first. He was a blushing mess but tried to play it off cool.

He knew he had to tell you one day but he never mustered the courage to tell you, so instead he tried giving hints here and there. You end up noticing when he would stutter a few words when he wanted to offer to watch a movie with you.
