November 4th

I loved magic.

I had known magic whole my life but magic at Hogwarts was different. It was big and fascinating. For the past few months, I had been learning so much. I had learned how to fly and learned that Defence Against the Dark Arts wasn't as interesting as I had thought it would be. Our professor was so dull. He just talked and talked and talked. He stuttered and I didn't really get what he was saying.

I had also noticed that Draco had something against Harry and his friends. He seemed to hate them. That girl, Pansy Parkinson, of course encouraged it. She was always there next to him. I could see she had a crush on him, but Draco didn't seem to notice. Typical boy.

"Y/N!" I heard Draco say. We were watching a Quidditch match Gryffindor against Slytherin. Harry Potter had gotten the seeker-place in Gryffindor's team even though he was only first grader. Usually, first graders didn't even get to try out. Harry was Professor McGonagall's pet. She seemed to love him and treat him differently from the others.

My father was a professor, and he didn't treat my any different from other Slytherins. He treated Harry more strictly, though, but I thought it was fair. Harry didn't really pay any attention in potions' class; therefore, it was natural for the teacher to be strict.

"Are you going to try out next year?" Draco asked.

"No, competing" I answered. I was quite good at it actually, and maybe I will try out, but I didn't want to say it out loud. I was very competitive person, and I was afraid I would lose my temper if I lost. I knew Draco wanted to be a seeker too and he had been pretty jealous when he found out that Harry had gotten into Gryffindor's team.

"You sure about that? You seemed to enjoy it last week in class," Draco mentioned.

"Of course, I like flying. I just don't like the competing part of the game."

"I'm going to be a seeker," Draco said like he had for few times already. I didn't know why he wanted to be a seeker so badly, or even on the team. I had never pictured him as a sports player. He had never even mentioned Quidditch to his father who I knew would be disappointed if Draco started playing it. He disapproved sports.

"I know that Draco."

"Are you going to watch all my games when I get on the team?" He asked. I raised my eyebrow. It was like I had heard carefulness in his voice. Did he really want me to watch every single one of his games? Even though we were friends I had always thought it was somehow one-sided. He got along with me quite well but didn't really seem to accept me.

"Well, that depends," I said jokingly.

"On what?" Draco sounded confused.

"If you want me to," I said. I wanted him to say it. I wanted him to say he wanted me to watch. I wanted to hear him admitting we actually were friends and not just business partners. Despite the deal between our parents, I liked to think we didn't have a deal between me and him. We were only 11 and it would feel kind of cruel if Draco felt we were only associated by the stupid contract.

Draco was quiet for a while and before he could say anything, Pansy Parkinson leaned closer to me with a mocking smirk on her face.

"Of course, he doesn't! He was just asking to make sure there's room for somebody more important," she said and smiled warmly at Draco who didn't even look at her. Some part of me got hurt. I didn't know when Draco had gotten closer to Pansy than me. He had known me for much longer than her.
