Mayor Quest had been kind to them, letting them each choose one of the three empty houses to live in.
Why they were empty, Rei had no clue, but she was grateful for it. She thought that not having Fenn around to bother her would be nice.
The houses had looked identical on the outside, but on the inside, Rei knew she had picked the right one.
The interior of the first floor was quite spacious, being mostly a kitchen. Rei loved to bake. There was a beautifully thick veil of vines covering the walls and plants all over. The house held plenty of storage space, and the room was lit up nicely by the soft natural light coming in through the windows. It had an almost modern feel to it, the decorations being mostly neutral greys, blacks, and whites.
Next to the island counter, a ladder led up to the second floor. It was like a loft, having a space cut out from the ceiling of the ground floor so one could look down from the railing to the space below.
Her bedroom was not cut off from the rest of the house; instead, there was a wall separating the bed from the rest of the loft that could be walked around to get into. It gave some privacy, but not as much as Rei would have hoped.
Rei was at a loss for what to do. She didn't have any luggage to move in or items to put away. She searched through the drawers, wondering if anything was there. She found cooking essentials, some tools, and some food.
She was finally at the last one. Two cabinets next to the front double doors. Rei opened them swiftly. She saw some flour, sugar, eggs, and milk, and, along with the ingredients, a book.
Rei read the title, Recipe Book. She opened it. Inside was a recipe for cake.
She knew what she was going to do.
Rei took the ingredients from the cabinet and set them on the island. She washed her hands and grabbed a mixing bowl and a few cake pans from a cabinet.
She was going to make a cake and bring it to her new neighbors to meet them.
Rei recalled Mayor Quest telling the three of them what each of the buildings were. To the right of the entrance was Adam and Penny Dimple's house. The young couple had gotten married and moved to Quest Town a few years back. Mayor Quest had said they were very friendly and loved to chat.
Next to their house was the Great House, where Town Council meetings were held. On the second floor, Mayor Quest had said, were the archives, where every document or old book from the library was held.
Speaking of the library, it was just next to the Great House. It possessed many books about everything from Quest Town's history to children's stories to books on potion making and witchcraft. The librarian there was Mr. Jakeson, a jolly man in his mid 30s. He lived in the basement of the library and was often seen heading over to a large tree by the lake side with a book in hand.
Next to the library was Rei's new house, and next door to her was Maeve.
On the other side of Maeve's house was the home of an old widow, Mrs. Bixby. Mayor Quest had said she was a very sweet and caring old lady. She hardly ever went out, but when she did, it was usually to go down to the market for groceries or to the cemetery to refresh the flowers on the graves and relight any candles that may have gone out.
The last building in Quest Town was Fenn's house, on the left side of the entrance. The structures were arranged in a circle with the fountain at the center. At the end of the path from Quest Town, there was an intersection. Mayor Quest had told them that the path led down to a staircase that led to the shore where a dock was. It was situated in a bay, the only way in for boats being a tunnel dug through the side of the mountain.
