Fenn stood at the foot of the magnificent crystal once again. His heartbeat pounded in his ears, each beat only worsening the splitting headache that had begun to develop.

He stared at the shimmering purple mass in front of him. What was going on? Would that voice speak again? He reached out to touch it. Upon his fingertips hitting the smooth but jagged rock, his headache worsened.

He tilted his head to glance at the top of the crystal. There sat a girl, not much older than Fenn himself. He could hardly see now, his eyes watering from the pain. She was wearing battle armor, fashionable and practical for the dark times following King Vidof's rule. The girl's hair was slivery and had a blue hue to it. It was about shoulder length and tucked behind her elvish ears so as to not get in the way. She had a sword balanced on her knee and held a sharpening stone in her hand.

Fenn could barely see. Each pound of his head brought white to his vision. At the last second before he thought he would collapse, the girl looked down at him.

And she smiled.

Fenn awoke, spluttering in strawberry red warmth. He kicked the red mass away and shot up. Coming to his senses, he realized he was in bed. Golden rays of bright sunlight shone through the small window across the room. He took a second to regain his vision. He still had a headache but it was mild and manageable.

It was all a dream! Another strange dream. Fenn rolled out of bed, he was still in Quest Town. Not that creepy cave with the crystal or his home with Rei on Mt. Canyon. Fenn wanted pancakes. He wasn't any good at making them. He swore internally. How would he get pancakes?

Fenn walked over to the dresser he had found the night before. It had many clothes, none of which he liked, but Maeve would certainly be delighted to see him in something other than a blue shirt in jeans for once. That's it! Maeve! Maeve would make him pancakes!

He quickly got dressed in a pair of brown pleated pants and a black turtleneck. It was uncomfortable, but he knew wearing something nice would make Maeve more likely to give him food. She hated his normal blue shirt and jeans look. It wasn't his fault she was always overdressed.

Fenn ran down the stairs and out the door. Only stopping when he reached Maeve's house. He banged on her door, loud enough that she would have to hear it. It opened and there was Maeve. She was overdressed. She wore a brown plaid dress over top a white collared shirt with black shoes Fenn was sure Rei wouldn't approve of. Maeve was holding a mug, filled with catnip tea, no doubt.

The first thing Fenn said to Maeve that day was, "What are thoseeee???!?" He cackled while pointing at her shoes. Maeve's ear twitched in utter annoyance. She just flipped him off, went back inside, and slammed the door.

That child, Maeve thought. She looked down at her shoes and shrugged, yeah, of course he would hate them.

She was certain he was there for food, the little brat would usually show up at her house in the taiga to beg her to make him pancakes. And she always wondered, why couldn't he make Rei do it? She was just as good as Maeve at it.

Maeve wasn't going to deny a kid his food, however childish he may be. She would just mess with him a bit.

Outside, Fenn was still laughing his Fenn hat off. He thought it was hilarious to make fun of Maeve's clothing choices, and it was. Maeve thought so too, even if she acted like he just ruined her week, on the inside she was always giggling as well. Their friendship was weird that way. Fenn would make fun of Maeve for dressing weird or being short and Rei would laugh right along with him. Maeve would call him an immature child and Rei would laugh at that too. Rei was too sweet to make fun of, she was the peacemaker, if anyone went too far, she would stop it before an actual fight began. They were like siblings, and they loved it that way.
