Then Gracie came running down the stairs.
"Papa!" She jumped onto the couch with us and hugged both of us. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay, munchkin. Eilonwy and I, we have some news for you." I grinned, gently taking his hand.
"What is it? Is it about Eilonwy?"
"That's the first part. How would you like her to be your mama?" Gracie's mouth dropped open.
"Really?" Jeff grinned.
"Yes, really." Gracie looked between me and Jeff.
"You're really gonna be my mama?" I laughed excitedly.
"Yes, if you are truly alright with it."
"Alright with it? I'm happy for my papa!" Jeff smiled.
"You want to know the other news?" Gracie grinned as she answered with another question.
"What is it? Am I getting a little sister?" Jeff coughed and turned red. I felt my face get really hot as I glanced at Jeff.
"Not for a while. Eilonwy and I share a heart now, which is part of why we wanna get married. We wanted to make it official how we feel about each other."
"The news could be worse." Jeff raised an eyebrow.
"Oh?"
"It could be that you have a twin brother you have never told us about." Jeff snorted.
"Like who? Bucky Barnes?"
"The man from those Marvel movies Gracie likes?" Jeff nodded. "The metal-armed muscle man?" Jeff snorted again.
"Yes, I've seen how you look at him. You undressed him with your eyes." I glanced at Gracie for a moment.
"There are children present." I leaned closer to whisper in his ear. "Besides, who is to say I have not done the same to you?"
"Hey!" I flashed him a wink.
"I can stop if you want me to." He gave me a look and turned away from me. "I meant you, silly." I nuzzled him gently.
"Hey, Gracie. Do you want to be our flower girl?"
"Changing the conversation, hmm...? You and I will have to discuss this more later." I turned to Gracie. "How would you like to be your papa's and my flower girl?" Gracie grinned at me.
"I'd love it!"
She threw herself over us, hugging us tightly. I yawned softly and curled up beside Jeff, setting my head on his chest. I put my arm over him and wrapped my arm around Gracie.
"I think...before we have a wedding..." I yawned again. "...We need some sleep. It has been a very stressful few days." I felt Jeff slide his arms around both me and Gracie. I gave him a gentle kiss on his cheek as I whispered so Gracie could not hear. "You should rest more than we should. You are the one who died and came back."
He closed his eyes and fell asleep. A little while later, I fell asleep, too. A few hours later, I opened my eyes. Gracie was still asleep on Jeff's other side and Jeff was still out, too. I shifted to get up to get a drink and when I came back, his arms squeezed around me and Gracie protectively.
The next day, Jeff and I were watching television while Gracie was at school. We were sitting on the couch together, with his arm across the back of the couch behind me. We were sitting peacefully when there was a knock on the door.
"Jefferson! I know you're in there! I have a reminder for you!" Jeff rolled his eyes and groaned.
