Episode 6: "Two Things that Go Together"
Bugs: (Narration) Ahh yes. School field trips. An elementary school tradition formed since the Bus was invented. I remember my first field trip, to the Planetarium for my 5th Grade Science class when I was on the East Side of Brooklyn. But there's never been a science teacher as zany as Miss Valerie Frizzle, known to us Students as Ms. Frizzle, or "The Friz" for short. Arnold told me about some of the crazy trips that he and his classmates did while in her class at Walkerville Elementary. Not without wishing that he stayed home for most of them. But, he was grateful for the learning experience.
(Record Scratch as Phoebe interrupts)
Phoebe: Bugs, What's with the voice?
Bugs: It's my narrator's voice.
Phoebe: It sounds like you're a grown-up Australian.
Bugs: Look, Doc. Do you want the intro to be average, or do you want it to be good?
Wanda: Come on, Phoebe! Let him narrate the story! Don't be such a Weasley wimp and try not to interrupt.
Phoebe: Oh. Sorry.
Bugs: Now where was I... Oh yeah! (Narration) And today's assignment was "Two things that go Together" as we were about to go to the Beach.
(The Friz Surfs in)
Ms. Frizzle: WAHOOO! Good morning, Class!
Students: Good morning, Ms. Frizzle!
Ms. Frizzle: I hope you brought your two things that go together.
Bugs: We all brought things, but Tails and Sonic accidentally forgot, all they brought were bathing suits and towels, and Sonic had also brought his life Vest since he couldn't swim. Tails brought a tuna sandwich for lunch, and Sonic, because he was in a careless hurry, stepped into a pond and got some scum on his shoe.
Sandy: Maybe they do go together you guys.
Sonic: I don't really know about that.
Ms. Frizzle: A good hypothesis, Sandy. This is exactly why we take chances, make mistakes, and explore our world in the ocean.
(They set off on their field trip)
Bugs: (Narration) We set off early that morning and arrived at the Beach at around 10 O'clock. Without warning, the Friz shouted:
Ms. Frizzle: Bus, do your stuff!
Bugs: (Narration) Then Splash! Into the ocean as a submarine. Tails found scum, which the Friz pointed out as Phytoplankton. Tails and Sonic got a closer look with her handy mega-magnifier. Soon, we were underwater and had shrunken down. We saw the little things up close and were nearly eaten by Zooplankton. We grew to their size, and after a flirtation with some Anchovies, Tails finally got the connection, by accident from Sonic's shoe scum.
Tails: We finally got the connection, you guys! Phytoplankton is eaten by Zooplankton, and they are eaten by small fish like anchovies! And what eats Anchovies...
(The Pink Panther points out a big Tuna)
Sonic: Um Tails...
Tails: There's a big tuna right behind me and opening its mouth at the bus, isn't there?
Students: YES!
(They all scream)
Keesha: Oh bad! Oh bad! Oh bad, bad, bad!
Ralphie: Not this again! I think I'm gonna be sick...
Sonic: At least we got the connection, Scum (Plankton) and Tuna are part of a chain of things that get eaten! Neat-o!
Ms. Frizzle: Usually we humans are at the top, but today we are actually inside it.
Bugs Bunny: (Narration) After we escaped the mouth of the Albicore tuna, we returned to normal size and got out of the water and back to school. Sonic arrived without his right shoe, I might add but ended up getting it back in the most unexpected of ways. It was fished out, grabbed by a seagull, dropped, grew to his size, and conveniently fell into his waiting hand. That is something else if you ask me. Of Course, This was just one of many bizarre field trips that the Friz took us on. If I talked about the rest of them, we'd be here all day. I knew what was next on the agenda: The Pee-Wee Football Championship game, which our school made thanks to my stellar play. Unfortunately, it would not be me to save that game. But that's a story... for another day! Heh heh heh!
