"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY AMAZING AGNETHA!" Frida practically jumped on her wife, who let out a little squeal of shock.
"Jeez Frid, couldn't you have waited a little longer?" Aggie said irritably, shoving a pillow back over her head. Frida blushed awkwardly, unsure how to proceed. Agnetha loved birthdays, why was this one any different?
"Um, well, okay, I- I guess..." The redhead replied, half tumbling off the bed.She pressed a short kiss to her love's forehead, then closed the door, breathing out a sigh. The breakfast she had prepared for the blonde was laid out on a chair, but Frida just picked it back up, went downstairs and put it on the table. Grabbing her book from the living room, she decided to calm her mind by getting some early morning fresh air. Meanwhile, a sleepy blonde lay upstairs, peacefully unaware of the tension she had created.
**********
"Frida? Sweetheart, where are you?" Agnetha went looking downstairs, expecting a birthday kiss from her lover and feeling mildly annoyed when she didn't find her. Aggie absentmindedly stroked Zappa's ears as she walked into the kitchen. Oh god. Her breakfast was still laid out on the table, and then she remembered how excited Frida had been. And she had ruined it all, burst her little bubble of happiness. Frida loved celebrating birthdays, always had and always will. Agnetha found this adorable, but she just wanted to sleep. She would have to make up for this, she knew it.*********
Frida lay back in the sun, revelling in its warmth. Even though April in Sweden was usually rather cold, today seemed to be the exception. She was such a sleepy girl, and rolled lazily to the edge of the outdoor sofa. She was stretched out like a cat, legs hanging in all directions. Attempting to twist onto her back, she felt herself topple off the side. Luckily for Frida, a pair of soft, strong hand saved her, holding her waist tightly. Breath quickening, she opened her eyes and glimpsed her wonderful wife, looking as angelic as ever.
"Thank god I saved that beautiful face of yours, Lyngstad." Agnetha hummed softly, gently moving a lock of her wife's hair that had fallen in front of her eyes.
"What do you want from me?" The redhead eyed her suspiciously, still unable to forget that morning.
"Oh, nothing. Just my birthday gift!" The blonde smiled cheekily, kissing her neck. She smirked internally when she felt Frida shiver against her. But Frida wasn't having any of it.
"Part of your birthday gift is on the table." Frida whispered bitterly, shoving Agnetha away from her. That hurt.
"Listen, baby-"
"We'll talk after you've had breakfast." Frida replied curtly, staring deep into her beloved's eyes. So, Aggie ran back inside and began to eat. Even though she wanted to talk properly with Frida more than anything, she was well aware her wife would not appreciate if she bolted down her food without savouring it.
"I'm here!" She dashed towards the her wife, who was sat demurely on the sofa, lost in her own little world.
"Hi." Was all she got in response.
"I'm sorry if I upset you Frida." Aggie raised her cool hand to her lips and kissed it softly, meeting her eyes.
"I'm sorry I ruined your birthday, Love. I didn't mean to." Frida swallowed, grabbing her hand an squeezing it hard.
"Of course you didn't! You always make my birthdays so special." Frida thought she would melt that very moment."I just wanted to make you happy, that's all." She twiddled her thumbs.
"You do, my darling. Every single day I pinch myself to see if you're real and this is my life with you. It's just so perfect."
"God Aggie, you'd think it was my birthday the way you're speaking about me!" Frida giggled, giving her a small kiss. "And for the record, I do the same. I don't know what I did in a past life to deserve an angel like you, It must have been extraordinary!" She smiled into those sapphire eyes, getting lost in them once more.
"The only angel here is you, Anni-Frid."
"Oh stop it you!" Frida blushed fiercely, watching as Aggie smirked at her.
"But it's true! I bet you didn't find me angelic earlier." The blonde scoffed."I really did, Angel Aggie!" She kissed the tip of her nose.
"Angel Anni!" Her wife blindly corrected.
"Angel Aggie!" Frida protested immediately.
"Angel Anni!" Agnetha stroked her warm red hair.
"AGGIE."
"ANNI"
"AGGIE!!!!"
"ANGEL ANNI!!!!!!! AND YOU CAN'T ARGUE WITH ME BECAUSE IT'S MY BIRTHDAY, SO HA!" Agnetha smiled triumphantly, covering her ears and starting to shout "LALALALA." Over and over again. Frida simply rolled her eyes, but then remembered a magic trick. So, she began tickling her wife, who squirmed violently. "Stop it Frida, please!" The younger woman begged, her words turning into wheezes within seconds.
"Not until you admit who the angel isssss" Frida sang.
"Me- Me" Agnetha was breathless.
"Good girl." Frida said, trying to imitate a stern mother but laughing at how stupid she sounded.
"But you more than me!" Agnetha said quickly and quietly, but Frida heard.
"I'm just going to pretend I didn't hear that." Frida chuckled, leaning back into the side of the sofa so that her legs took up most of the space.
"Hey! I've got no room!" Agnetha pouted.
"Come here then." Anni-Frid opened up her arms.Agnetha cuddled closer, so close in fact their hair mixed together, creating a blend.
"I love you Anni-Frid Lyngstad." Agnetha propped her head up on Frida's chest, gazing with wonder and joy in her eyes.
"I love you so much more, birthday girl." Frida cupped her face, drawing her in for a long kiss.
"You're the best present life has ever given me." Agnetha said simply, leaning in.
"You better not re-gift me, Fältskog." Frida said seriously.
"And you better not either." Agnetha replied, sounding a little sad.
"What do you mean by that?" Frida sensed this wasn't just a flying comment.Agnetha shifted awkwardly, not meeting her eyes.
"Anna?"
Well- Well it's just whenever we go to parties or the club, all these gorgeous men and women always dance with you, they buy you drinks, even flirt with you. And I know you're flirty by nature, so you play along."
"But they do that to you too, love." Frida spoke softly, entwining Anna's hair around her hand.
" I know that, but I'm different from you. I don't know how to flirt with strangers. And you have so many more options than me because you like men and women. I don't care about that fact in the world and I'd love you forever regardless of if you were a lesbian, bisexual, felt you were transgender (okay I know it's the 70s, but I just wanted to make a point.), or even if you were straight or anything else." Agnetha rambled blindly. "But I get scared that you'll get enticed in by another woman, or a man who can offer you things I... can't." Agnetha sucked in her cheeks, something she only did when nervous.
"And what could a man offer me that you can't?" Frida kissed her wife's brow, wanting to transmit all the love she felt for her.
"Children." Anna said instantly. This matter had clearly been playing on her mind for a while.
"We could still have children together, you know. There are methods of doing that now. Adoption, fostering, sperm banks....." She began listing them off with her fingers.
"And I'm so glad about that, but I meant a biological child that's half of both of us."
"Well maybe one day they'll create means for us to have some, but at least we have more options than a few years ago." Frida tried to remain positive."But I also had this dream, where I was waiting for you to come home. You'd been going out more and coming back later, but when you came home, you were really drunk and with another woman, Frid. You were kissing, and you bought her into our bedroom." Agnetha tensed at the memory.
"I apologise on behalf of my dream self. Know that I love you more than words can ever express." The older woman rubbed her back soothingly. "I'll never leave you, Agnetha."
"Truly?" The blonde sniffed.
"Truly." Anni-Frid replied firmly, kissing her cheeks.Note:
