Summary:
Frida flirts with a man at a bar. Agnetha doesn't like this at all.CIRCA 1981.
The bar was busy that night, no doubt about that. Agnetha stumbled in, already a little tipsy, and dragged her best friend onto the dance floor. "Aggie, slow down! I'll have a stitch soon." Frida giggled, clutching her side. The blonde turned back to her companion, shouting, "I'll get us some drinks. What do you want?" Of course Agnetha knew her order, but still wanted to check even so.
"Vodka, cranberry and lime juice." Frida had to bellow, for the music was deafening. Agnetha smiled to herself a little as she went up to the counter. Just like I thought. The bartender was a old friend of hers, Lars. They went to school together and sometimes still talked on the phone. "ANNA FÄLTSKOG, WELL I NEVER!" He roared happily, shaking her hand. "I never thought I'd see you at my bar. You were always goody-goody angel Anna." She rolled her eyes playfully.
"Well, I didn't either to be honest. But my friend over there, Frida? You've definitely heard of her! Anyway, she wanted to go out tonight so we went to the club, you know. But for the first time in her life Anni-Frid actually got bored there so I thought I'd bring her here, I hope that's okay..." She finished, looking down at the small puddle of beer that lay by her hand."Nonsense, the more the merrier, I say! Especially if they're all as foxy as that one there." He winked as Anna turned around, spying Frida dancing rather sensually with an older man. I mean, Frida was a few years senior than her, but the man had to be at least 5 years older than her purple-haired friend.
Anger flooded her body, what on earth was Frida doing?! They were in public for God's sake, the press will know about where they are in about 5 seconds, and she wants to be seen with that man? I mean of all people, why that one? Agnetha was a better dancer anyway, wouldn't Frida prefer to dance with her instead?
"Sorry Anna." She heard a voice behind her, sounding slightly timid.
"What for?" Her head snapped back to meet Lars' eyes.
"Well I just realised she's your...friend, isn't she?" Lars asked cautiously.
"Of course she is! You haven't been reading those stupid news articles saying we're 'worst enemies' or something, have you?" Anna despised those. Why on Earth would they hate each other?"No, you know I'd never listen to those anyway! I mean she's your special friend, isn't she?" He grinned.
"No- I uh- don't know you mean!" Agnetha squeaked, feeling her cheeks heat up and thanking heaven for the flashing lights."Quit it An, we all knew you batted for the other side at school."
"You did?" Anna asked voice barely a whisper, but he heard her. What if he was only joking and thought she was a freak now? What if he told the press? Or Frida for that matter? What would Frida think of her?
"Course we did!" He said , busily wiping a pint glass with an old rag. "Particularly after a maths class where for the whole hour you'd just stare at Mrs Stalberg's tits-"
"Thank you, Lars." She cut in, very aware that even though it was noisy, they were still in a public place."Anyway, I'd go for it you know! She's hot, and you only live once Aggie. Take a chance, it might pay off." Lars winked, handing her both drinks.
"You clearly don't know Frida at all then." Agnetha said wryly, gulping her gin & tonic.
"I don't, but why should it matter?"
"Because people don't think like you. They think it's some sort of disease and we all should be imprisoned for immoral behaviour or some shit." Agnetha was surprised by the harshness of her own words, she never usually swore in public where anyone could hear her.
"She doesn't seem like the type of gal who would." Lars pointed out.
"She wouldn't, but I don't want to make her uncomfortable..." Agnetha pursed her lips.
"HA, so you do like her then!" He smiled, looking satisfied.
