I wasn't there

I wasn't there,
When your words turned cold,
Spoken ill of me, a story untold.

In front of my friends,
You sought a spotlight's gleam,
Trading my trust for a selfish dream.

A spotlight, coveted by someone like you,
Blinded by the desire to shine,
Ignoring the pain etched in this heart of mine.

The way they looked at me,
Eyes filled with doubt and disdain,
Aching wounds inflicted, causing inner pain.

It hurt me deeply,
Affecting my spirit and soul,
Betrayal's sting, taking its toll.

You acted as if nothing had occurred,
Feigning innocence, ignoring the truth,
While I carried the weight of this bitter proof.

Yet, I have forgiven you,
Though you never sought amends,
Choosing to release the pain that still rends.

I wasn't there
