Chapter 3- Teachers

"You will obey all orders. You will follow us. You will bow!" The big dog spoke. His voice rattled the inside of my bones. He carried a complete steel black body, he was a dog, but somehow, was not. Continuing, he again spoke with the same electric voice. "Anyone who doesn't agree with our motives, our objectives, and the way of the guards will be destroyed on the spot."

I didn't dare turn my head from Retro, the dog's name. He made me feel fear inside and out. I never had seen him before, which brings me to how I should act around him. Twitching my nose, a hint of Jet's scent, plus at least Haley and another dog, were in the room. Everyone had strengths of their own, which makes me suspicious of each others abilities.

"You dog, step fourth." The snarl came from Retro. I realized I've been caught in my own thoughts.

I took a first few wobbling steps forward, feeling his red eyes watching me.

"Your name?" His voice rattled mechanically.

"I.. I.. I don't have a name.. Sir.." Figuring I would use the word sir since I notice its used for higher authorities, Retro approved of it.

"Very well. You shall be known as Clash then."

I tipped my ears back, the new name only brought memories of the electric shocks that had ran through me my whole life. But as I thought about it, Jet's name did suit him for his cunning speed. Haley... I wasn't so sure. Everyone had a name resembling something about themselves. Yet, I had no abilities.

Retro's paw slapped hard across my cheek when I realized I zoned out again. In the corner of my eye, I could see Jet flinch as he watched my head slam the ground. He was daring to sit up but I struck him a glare in my eyes.

"Are you listening now? Good," he chuckled lowly, "and now we shall practice on one of these dogs as your opponent attacker. Since you seem so willing to go back in line I suggest you take on Haley."

Haley stepped forward, her scarred face proved enough that she was an professional at this.

I took a step back, the cold white floor was enough trouble for keeping balance. I tried to focus on Haley, staring at her black pelt, but the the white walls felt as if they were closing in. Shivering, the lights from the roof seemed to flicker violently.

Haley growled and bolted forward. Her paws rarely glided against the smooth floor. My fear was I had no clue what she's capable of, but she may be wondering the same thing. The moment Haley's teeth crashed into my throat, she thrown me meters into the air. As I cried out in the open air, the lab leapt and grasped my throat again, bringing me quickly back to the ground. I howled out as my skull slammed against the floor. Haley's teeth held in me, slowly tightening. Her yellow eyes glared into my fearful eyes.

"That'll be enough. Thanks for demonstrating, Haley." Retro let his pure red tongue slide out.

Haley grinned at him, "Didn't break a sweat."

"We shall see top dog in future lessons. I hope you are all more prepared." Retro's red eye glared at me.

Once all the dogs began walking toward the door to their new cage room, Jet helped me to my feet. "You ok? You went up pretty high."

"I think," I muttered, still laying on the floor.

"Let me help," he began to grasp my scruff. I pushed him away, I didn't want to be seen as the weak one. I rose back up and leaned against Jet's shoulder for support.

"Easy, we still need to find a way out." Jet nuzzled me. I looked to him, he was still thinking of a way out. I dipped my head, I didn't want to lose him if anything happened to him. Peering into his eyes, they still held a trusting gaze of love.

"There's vents in and out of the training room," the words slipped from my mouth quietly. His eyes narrowed, "I was looking at those too. The air scents from outside, but not from the caged-fence side."

"I think we should bring the team." He smiled to himself.

"Haley? Retro? And that other dog? Are you crazy!?"

Once the new doors opened to our new cells, Jet decided to continue later. The doors shut behind him and me, we were both still next door dogs to each-others cage. Only this time, Haley sat beside my kennel and the other dog besides Jet.

It remained quiet, Haley and the dog seemed asleep for us to discuss the escape.

Jet continued from the question I left him on, "Yes, I notice Haley is also viewing the vents. She's wanting out as much as us, and her strength and teeth may come in handy."

"And that dog?"

Jet peered back to the dog sleeping behind him. His thin white and spotted black pelt gently rose and fell to his snore. "Watch would be a keen addition with his senses. Retro won't be one of us."

I gulped slightly, "When do we leave?"

"Tomorrow."

"But.. Watch and Haley haven't approved, we don't even know where those tunnels lead us. What If they sell us out?"

"Clash? Isn't it? We want out of here as bad as you to."

Watch's voice alarmed Jet and I. Watch turned his head to face us, "We been listening."

"Your both in?"

"Of course," it was Haley who growled this time, "you also do realize beyond the concrete walls there's just barren dead land?" She lowered her ears, talking a little quieter, "Turtle told me it's hot and seems never ending."

"Never ending?" I tipped my head back in sorrow.

"Turtle made a run when he was younger.. He took his closest friend with him but when the humans caught up. He didn't come back. Turtle was never the same.. And neither was I..."

"You loved him..." Jet whispered to Haley.

"I tried to come but Turtle didn't let me. Because of Turtle, I never saw Flash again."

Jet pressed his nose through the chain-link fence separating him from me. He wasn't staring to me but to Haley on my other side. "Why did you harm Clash if you knew about us wanting to leave?"

"I'm sorry, I only did so to please the Facility. You know what happens if we don't.."

I raised my head accepting the apology. "We leave tomorrow?"

Watch ended up answering for us. "The next time these doors open we shall make our move."
