Blue halted to a stop, her keen nose picking up the scents of hare and raccoon. The wind brushed through her darkened blue fur, caring some familiar scent. The scent grew stronger till it pushed into her side.
Tumbling, a black wolf with a bright white spot on his chest pinned her successfully.
He pulled back his lips in a smile. Blue pushed him off, "Get off Dagger! You big lump of fur, you're squishing me."
Dagger pulled away, letting a warm grin, "Surprised you, did I not?," his gaze still remained steady, "We encountered another strange wolf scent by the border of our territory."
"Which part of the territory border? The one that runs down by the river that cuts off, falling into the canyon?"
"Nearby, but heading the opposite direction by the riverside."
"You think it could be the Marsh Pack, they're pretty clever in tricking and disguising scents?"
Dagger hesitated for a moment then answered, "If it was the Marsh Pack, we would have know. The scent is completely different from the forest scents that lie here. Couldn't be them."
Blue sighed and gave her mate a friendly lick on his muzzle, "Let's go back to the pack, I'm sure the strangers will not be a problem to our strong pack."
This is Dark Forest Pack, a wolf pack that lives in the deep shadows of the forests.
As Blue and Dagger arrived in the camp Chase stood in horror and watched as Rune, one of Blue's pups, was shaking violently against the ground. Blue howled in terror and bolted to her beloved pup, Chase stopped her.
"Don't get too close, you'll catch the sickness!"
"My baby! Rune! Let me through, I must get to her!"
Chase made no movement in stepping aside, which made Blue growl. Dagger only watched in fear as the young wolf's eyes were clouded black, and her blood was pouring from her mouth. Rune's body went still, they could no longer see the rising and falling of the wolf's gray flank. Rune was dead.
Blue pushed into the omega's side as Tabby, the healer of the pack stepped in. Blue's fur was ruffled as she sank her back teeth into Chase's shoulder blade. Tabby bolted toward them, "Blue, that's enough, we can explain!"
Chase, a one-eyed black omega, and Tabby, brown and white pelted, both joined the pack together, they have traveled in search of a pack till they stumbled across Blue, alpha female leader.
Blue, letting go, answered the healer in a shaking voice, "What would you know, my Rune is dead."
"A year ago, me and Chase were in a different pack. However, we came so far to escape the sickness that had claimed every life of the pack. I could do nothing to heal them. It grew worse, everything seemed dead," Tabby breathed out. From the expression on the brown and white spotted female's face, she was telling the truth.
Blue breathed, was there really such a sickness?
She lifted her muzzle into a long, sorrow howl that echoed throughout the lands. The rest of the pack joined in to howl for their lost pack-mate.
Lowering their heads, Chase and Tabby stared directly at Blue. If It gotten this far the end could be near.
