Joker stalked through the dark alleyways all the way back to his home. Despite what he had said to Batman, Joker was a little nervous about seeing Harley for the first time since he had become a vampire. He believed she would still love him and want him to change her, that he was sure of. What he wasn't so sure of was himself. He wasn't sure if he could contain himself. He had been experiencing weird things since he had been bitten. He could tell that all his senses had been enhanced ten fold. What worried him the most was that, when he saw Batman, he didn't see his outward appearance. He saw inside of him.
He saw all of Batman's organs, his veins, and especially his blood. He could see it running through his veins as clear as day. That's what he was afraid of. He was afraid he was going to look at Harley, only see her blood, lose all control of himself, attack her, and bite her too early.
Joker, hoping for the best, opened the door of the warehouse as quietly as he could, and stepped inside. He looked around for Harley, but he found that she was not there.
'She must be in the bedroom', Joker thought. He walked back and sneaked into the room. He stayed in the shadows so Harley couldn't see or hear him.
He saw her sitting on the bed, hands on the sides of her head and crying, with their two pet hyenas, Bud and Lou, sitting on the bed beside her. He wanted to comfort her, but he knew he should stay in the shadows and be quiet. The universe was set against that wish, for when he walked farther back, he stepped on one of the hyena's squeaky toys.
Harley's head quickly snapped forward when she heard the noise. She stood up and grabbed her hammer which she had laying on the bed.
"W-Who's there?" She asked, chocking on a sob. Joker knew he now had no choice but to reveal himself.
"It's all right, Harley. It's just me," Joker said quietly, staying hidden in the shadows.
"M-Mistah J?" Harley called out, confused.
"Yes, Harley."
Harley laid her mallet back on the bed and said to him, "Why are you hiding? Come over here to the bed. I was so worried about you. I was just about to come find you." When she saw that he wasn't coming any closer, she started walking towards him.
"No, Harley. Stay over there. Don't come near me," Joker pleaded, walking back with each step she took.
"Why? Did I do something to anger you?" Harley replied, walking back to the bed with her head hung.
"No, Harley. I'm the reason you can't be near me. Not you."
"Why Puddin'? Are ya sick? Please come over here and let me look at you. Maybe I can make ya something to drink and get ya some medicine."
"I'm not sick, Harley. It's far worse than that...I-I'm a monster." He said, hanging his head in sadness.
"What? What do ya mean your a monster? Mistah J, if someone called you a monster, tell me who it is and I'll take care of 'em for ya! I promise they're wrong! Don't listen to 'em!"
"It's not that someone told me, Harley. I am a monster. Not just any monster, either...I-I'm a vampire," he said the last statement so quietly that she almost didn't hear him.
"A what?"
"A vampire."
"Are you sure you're not sick and just being delusional?" Harley asked, a hint of worry in her voice.
"I'm not crazy, Harley. Well...I am crazy, but I know if I've been turned into a vampire or not, and I most certainly have."
"I believe ya, Puddin'. Please, just come over here and let me see you. I'm not scared of you."
