Chapter 1: The Letter

I cannot even remember the last time I came to the library. After spilling milk on one of the ancient books when I was 10, I feared coming inside the library. As I start making my way to the entrance of the library I notice two royal guards standing, side by side. They seem to be laughing and having a conversation. I walk by them slowly and prepare myself to be bombarded by questions. After making my way through the door and right past them, I realized that they did not even notice me walking by. I don't know why I was so afraid of coming in here when every staff member of the palace is allowed to be inside the libraries.

Once again I glance down at the letter and try to disfigure the drawing given to me by the Crow. It is clearly a skull with a knife struck through it. I trance down the library making sure I do not miss any details. I start to peek through the books on the bookshelf on my right. Surely Jubin does not expect me to look at the book covers for a clue. Instead of wasting time, I decide to make my way to the middle and inspect the letter a bit more closely to think through my next moves.

I notice a fountain with a statue in the middle and decide to rest there. As I make my way to sit on the edge of the fountain's ridge, I start to wonder who the person on the statue was. Ah! It is the Great Fortune Tier's Statue: Kinlmonuas. He was a man with powers of death and the founder of Arganstads. When I was younger, the kids used to joke that he was still alive and will come back to kill us all. I giggled when I remembered how much I used to fear him.

I inspected the statue further and suddenly noticed the unfamiliar symbol from the letter! There Kinlmonuas was, holding a skull head with a knife coming through it. I walk closer to the statue and inspect the hands carefully. I cannot see any clues that would help me find my way to the mortuary from where I stood. I decided I needed to go closer. Finally, with some courage, I decided to stand on the ridge of the fountain. I quickly balance and hover over to inspect the statue's hand. Suddenly from the left of me, a scholar with a blue hood paces forward. I panic and instinctively pretend to clean the statue. The scholar paces by me but is too preoccupied with the book to notice me. I put my hand down and started to reexamine the skull's head. There was nothing on there so I decided to look more closely at the knife he held. Unexpectedly there was a four-digit number on the handle. It read 4-8-9-0. I quickly wrote down the numbers on the handle to not forget them. Just in case I ran back up and read the numbers again.

"4-8-9-0, oh ok, yeah I am good"

I decide to move on and look at the next word in the letter. It read "Coded Door".
