Reina Santos
I run my fingers through my hair in frustration. How could this happen?! I can't tutor Kai, I just can't. He's overly annoying and thick headed, how am I gonna manage that? And him tutoring me? Like I need he's freaking help, I can manage on my own. He's way too annoying anyway..... with his stupid smile, and his ugly laugh..... and his eyes that you could easily lost in. Yeah... he'd be a total nuisance.
"Sir, is there not anything else that I could take as a punishment? I could clean the bathrooms or scrap gum off the tables?" I desperately ask Mr. Nelson, surely there would be something.
"No miss Santos, unless you want to be suspended for 2 weeks?" I sigh hopelessly, there is no getting out of this one is there?
"Reina... Kai is a nice boy, yes he may seem annoying and rough but he is really committed. Just give it a chance Okay?" I sigh once more and realize there is nothing else I can do..... guess I'm stuck with Kai.
"Fine, I'll try." I answer reluctantly.
"That's my girl." I roll my eyes and walk out of the office. Alright Reina Santos...... You can do this.
~Lunch Time~
"So you're telling me that you have to tutor Kai Diaz and he has to tutor you because y'all couldn't control your temper?" Nina gives me a look of disbelief, like I'm the dumbest motherfucker on this damn planet.
"Well, he was being a fucking asshole so I just returned the favor." I reply back, trying to justify my childish behavior from before.
"It doesn't mean.... oh whatever, you aren't gonna listen to me anyways." Nina finally finishes judging me and I'm glad that she finally gave up.
"I mean.... this could be a good thing. It's better than getting suspended AND you get something out if it." Nico, Nina's brother, explains to me.
Nico and Nina have been my friends ever since I moved here. My father had met my mother in the Philippines after some sort of war, and they instantly fell inlove with each other. He began to live with her and a couple years later they had me. However, they weren't married so my mother's family practically disowned her. I was about 3 at the time so I don't really remember much, but I remember the nights when my mother cried for her family...... they never came. My father hated seeing my mother in so much pain, so he brought her to his home, Australia. Dad's family welcomed my mother with open arms and all that pain seemingly went away. I resented my mother's family for causing so much pain. But when I met Nico and Nina in primary school, I found something that felt nice..... Friendship.
"I mean who knows.... you and Kai my reignite the old flame from primary school." Nina suggests, with a wiggle of her eyebrows.
I feel my whole face, neck and ears heat, meaning I'm probably blushing like crazy. Kai was my first kiss, just at the end of 6th grade. However, after that we never really spoke. I kind of had a crush on him after but he ended up getting with Sean Williams, then I got with my first girlfriend, May Stevens. He ended up dating her too, we have similar tastes surprisingly. I go to grab some water to cool myself when I make eye contact with the very man I was speaking of, Kai Diaz. I see him have a look of annoyance at first, before his friend, I think it was Djinda, whispers something into his ear. His face instantly goes bright red and he inverts his eyes away from me. I feel a strange pit in my stomach, what did she say to him? Why did he react like that? Do they like each other? Are they together- Wait... why do I care? It's none of my business anyways.
"Imma go now." I get up from my seat, not even sparing a glance for Nina and Nico. I hastily walk towards the Kai, never missing a step.
My chest begins to constricted and my tummy starts to turn over. What am I doing? My hand curls into a fist before relaxing back into its normal state. I reach out for his shoulder and lightly tap, resting my hand in the dip between the shoulder and neck. He turns his head and our eyes meet, an electric feeling coursing through my veins. Kai quirks his eyebrow with a slight smirk and I blush lightly.
"Um when do you want to study..?" I ask, being shy and under his gaze. How the fuck am I shy? I wasn't shy before.
" I dunno.... why not this Saturday?? I'm not busy, I usually have church on Sundays so I can't then, and I'm sure you do too." I blush at the fact of him knowing a small part of my schedule... GET IT TOGETHER REINA.
"Yeah, let's meet at your place on Saturday at... 2pm? If that works for you?" I ask, knowing very well I'd rather him NOT come to my house.
"Sure, see you then I guess." I turn to walk away, when I feel a broad, yet quite soft, hand touch my shoulder.
"Um, I kinda need your number to contact you later.... if that's okay with you of course." He asks almost politely.
I swiftly pull out a spare piece of paper and jot down my number, marking my name messily underneath the digits. I train my eyes at him, and he grasps the another piece of paper, writing his own contact. I stuff the paper into pocket and turn away back to my friends, who give me a quirked eye brows...... this is gonna be interesting.
