[through the warmth, through the cold, keep running till we're there]

It was the first time in five years that Isabelle hadn't spent her first of September at Platform 9 3/4, the first time in five years she hadn't spent her first of September with James, with Sirius.

But Alfea reminded her of Hogwarts, the ancient castle crackling with years of powerful and ancient magic, a sense of power she could feel in her, feel coursing through her veins. The history of the castle as rich, she could sense that, and mosaic of good and bad, and with an energy a touch darker then the one she was used to at Hogwarts.

"You look very lost" said this guy, popping up next to her. He had blonde hair, blue eyes - a tried and tested combination, he was tall and athletic, and had a sense kindness to him. Definitely a Hufflepuff.

"I'm not lost" she replied curtly.

"You're a fairy, right?" he asked, "A first year as well if I had to take a guess."

"Um, yeah. I guess I am a fairy first year" that was weird to say - she hadn't been a first year in four years, and she hadn't ever called herself a fairy.

"Well, fairy first year who doesn't need my help, you're heading towards the Specialist Hall, and as you're a fairy you need to be heading in the other direction" he laughed, gesturing to a building behind her.

"Well that's awkward" she chuckled, cheeks flushing,

"Yeah, you were lost weren't you?" teased the guy, "What realm are you from?"

"Realm? Oh yes, realm's, yeah um -"

"Do you not know where you're from?" he laughed, looking confused.

"I do... I do" she repeated when he looked unconvinced, "It's just complicated"

"Where are you from then?" he asked.

"Yorkshire, Sheffield to be more exact" she said awkwardly, her Northern lit becoming more pronounced when saying the name of her home town.

"So you're not from the Otherworld?"

"Like I said, it's complicated"

"Sounds it" he said, then looked down at her trunk and looked up suddenly, "I'm so sorry, I should've asked. Do you need any help carrying your stuff?"

"Why? Do you not think I can do it on my own - I should've sensed it from the mansplaining earlier"

"I didn't mean that, I - "

"I know, I'm pulling your leg. But yet people still say that chivalry is dead"

She smiled at him, he reminded her of Remus, that unfaltering kindness and quick humour.

"Quit perving on the first years" said this other boy aggressively, black hair, dark eyes and 'playboy' aura around him. That used to be Isabelle's type, but not anymore, not after he -.

"Riv, just give me one second" Izzy left at that, turning around and walking away. She wasn't going to let herself get burned again.

"Why, you going to chase after her?" With the boys still being in her earshot she turned around at this, and saw Sky staring at her. She gave him a little wave which got him smiling as she gestured towards The Fairy Hall.

"God that smile makes me wanna be sick" said Riven as Sky turned back towards him.

"Oh Shut up" said Sky, 'man-hugging' Riven, "How are you man?"

"You must be Isabelle" said a blonde girl, waiting on the steps of the Fairy Hall.

"Yep, Izzy's fine though" said replied, giving a small wave. She felt like the odd one out here, her bell-bottoms and blue-tank top feeling too simple.

"You're late" she said sharply, "And I prefer Isabelle, sounds more... what's the phrase? Ah yes, put together."

"Hi, I'm Bloom" said the girl standing next to the blonde, Izzy noted two things about her - she had red hair like Izzy's and an American accent.

"And I'm Stella" said the blonde, "Shall we?"

"Miss Dowling tells me this is your first trip to the Otherworld, for both of you, I hope that your trips were painless"

The inside of Alfea was chaotic, it filled Izzy with a sense of longing for Hogwarts, for home. The excited chatter of young people, and the magic bursting at the seams made her nostalgic for home.

"You're only here for as long as you need to be. The harder you work and the quicker you master this, the quicker you get home" she'd been telling herself that on repeat, like a mantra. The only thing getting her through the thought of a potential year away from Hogwarts.

"Isabelle" Stella snapped her out of her trance, "I was talking to you."

"Sorry, I was in another world" she chuckled weakly.

"Well..." said Stella, giving her a dirty look, "I was saying, Dowling's told me about Bloom - how she's lived in the Firstworld her whole life, but she's told me almost nothing about you"

"Maybe its because it's none of your business where I'm from" snapped Izzy.

Stella looked taken aback, and Bloom chuckled.

"So where are we going" asked Izzy, walking ahead and stopping to gesture at them.
