The Dinner

“What the fuck is this Julia!” He was angered, he got up and attacked me. The force of his hands around my neck was starting to burn. I tried talking but it was too much, I couldn’t breathe. “Answer me you dumb bitch!” He let go of me and I took a few breaths. “Speak!” I took a couple more breaths. I felt a burning sensation and then throbbing on my cheek; he slapped me. I let a tear slip out. “You dumb bitch, you don’t even know how to prepare my favorite meal and then you expect me to eat it? Why don’t you eat this Julia? Why don’t you! Are you trying to poison me?Can’t cook right and you want to be my wife. Please!” He yelled, something wasn’t right. Not in his head.

“I tried making your food, if you think I poisoned it then I’ll eat what is in your plate.” I reached over to get ahold of the plate, but he smacked my hand.

“I’ll eat this.” he took his fork and ate, my phone rang & then he acted violent.

“Who is that? Your lover?”

“I have to take this call, its my mother.” I was still crying but I answer the phone, I hoped mom couldn’t hear the ball of fur that was stuck in my throat. I put it on speaker so Charlie wouldn’t yell at me.

“Honey, is everything all right?” Mom said in a worried voice

“Yeah, everything is fine.” I tried not to choke on my words.

“I don’t think I can make it on time tonight. I have to work late at the office tonight, go ahead and have dinner with out me. I love you.”

“It’s all right mom, and I love you too.” I hung up and I made sure that Charlie heard everything.

“I’m sorry for acting like a jerk tonight. I have some problems at home that get me tense. I really am.” He said. I looked him in the eye and I found sincerity in his eyes. I actually felt bad for him.

The whole night went better, but I couldn’t believe he hurt me. Not so bad. I was now engaged, the diamond ring sparkled even in the dark, with only the moon’s shining beams. I couldn’t believe the size of it, it was huge. I’m happy that he promised to change. If he didn’t I would leave him, and that was a sure and clear thing.
