The Time Passed Fast

I woke up in the hospital, finally. I had given birth to a beautiful baby girl. I named her Charlotte Colin Steffens. She had Charlie’s last name and then mine. She was beautiful. Her bright blue eyes were exactly like Charlie’s, her hair was a dark brown, like mine, she had curly eyelashes and full dark eyebrows. She was a sexy child, she resembled a vampire. But she was my child, and I wouldn’t let harm come between us. For the 5 months that were left of my pregnancy, Charlie did everything that I asked him, he seemed calm and restful. I felt the fire igniting. I never knew I would fall for him, surprisingly he was there and he caught me. I couldn’t be happier.

“Good morning Sunshine.” I heard my mom say, Charlie came and kissed my forehead. He held my favorite flowers; lilies.

“These are for you sweetheart.” He laid the flowers down next to the hospital bed. “How do you feel?”

“I feel better, wheres Charlotte?” I looked around with my weary eyes.

“The nurse said she would bring her in once she awoke for her breastfeeding.” Charlie said, he sounded comprehensive. I liked that.

“I’m going to take a nap, i’m really tired. Babe, kiss me.” He kissed me as I asked him, then he sat in a chair and waited for the nurse to come, while I slept.

“Honey wake up, she’s here.” Said Charlie.

I woke up and took my child. She was gorgeous. She’s the cutest, I attached her to me and made sure she was full before I let them take her away.  That same day I was able to bring her home, it seemed fast but I was there for three days.  I was glad I was coming home, I wasn’t living with mother no more, I had a home with my new family.

Once at home Charlie let me settle down, he didn’t ask for anything just to ask to hold my-our baby.  I keep all my thoughts in my head if Charlie was to hear me, he’d kill me.

~5 months later~

Crack? This can’t be. I looked more deeply in the shed, that was his hiding spot-his chill spot. I put my hand around my mouth, It was some sort of drug, white and powdery it looked like small crystals and it shone when the sun directed its rays towards it. I couldn’t help it. It was January, and it was hot, the powder seemed to fizz when the suns beams were shining on it, I was scared. In Texas I guess you could say that there are a lot of crack heads. Who knows if this is Charlie’s or one of his friends. I picked up Charlotte and took the crack and put it in the garbage, I made sure to leave everything the way I found it and I locked up.

Once inside I put Charlotte in her crib, and gave her a freshly done bottle. I sat down in a chair next to her crib, and I sang to her, I couldn’t think straight and my thoughts were interfering with the words coming out of my mouth. Could this really be? Is Charlie drugging himself? God. Please let this be some sort of lie, something I imagined.

I heard the front door open. “Charlie? Is that you?” I got no response from the person, and I got up to go look for the culprit.

There was no one, the coast was clear.

Charlotte wailed, she cried and cried, I became frightened. I ran to her bedroom as fast as I could and suddenly I heard her bedroom window shatter. I got to her room and checked her crib, she wasn’t there. I panicked and looked out the window, my baby was in a bush she wasn’t crying, but I was. I backed away slowly horrified of what I had seen, suddenly I felt something around my neck. I tried turning around but I was being held against the wall and I was suffocating. I couldn’t breath, I got pushed on the ground and soon he was on top of me. I couldn’t distinguish his figure he was wearing a mask and his nose bridge was covered so I couldn’t see anything but his piercing black eyes. I reached out my arm and attempted to get one of Charlotte’s toys. Got it. I hit him with the toy, but he was still alive. He grew stronger and I couldn’t withstand his force. There was a piece of the glass on the floor, it was sharper than the rest, I picked it up and stabbed him in his back. He groaned with pain and he let go of me, he rolled over and the glass became inserted deeper into where I had stabbed him he rolled to his side and tried getting the sharp object out, but he was too week. I got up and quickly ran down stairs, I opened the door and ran behind the house, where I met with my child. She cried but her screams were nothing, they were quiet. I picked her up and held her close to me.
