Nezuko couldn't stop thinking about the hospital incident. She had read up on the Uchihas, and they seemed as cool and powerful as any of the other clans, but she couldn't help but notice some biased writings when she read up on their history.
For one, she couldn't figure out why they were moved to the outskirts of the village, especially when they did as much for the village, if not more, than the Hyuuga did, which was yet another prestigious clan. Not to mention, they were a founding clan of the village itself so Nezuko couldn't figure out what the strange animosity was for.
Another thing she noticed is that she hasn't even seen one yet, despite her being around about the entire village. Did something happen? What did she miss while she was hospitalized or out and about in the forest? Unfortunately, her caretaker was out on a mission and she wasn't well acquainted with any of the other adults in the village. Well, all but one.
When Nezuko arrived at the Hokage tower, there was a lady at a receptionist's desk at the entrance. She didn't seem to notice Nezuko's entrance until she rang the bell at the desk. Her eyes only flashed surprise briefly before she straightened up. "What can I do for you?" she asked. She wasn't smiling, but her eyes looked kind. "I'd like to see the Hokage, miss..." Nezuko looked at the name tag on her shirt. "Miss Yuki." The lady smiled warmly at her before telling her to stay there as she made her way to what she assumed was the Hokage's office.
It wasn't long before she came back. "The Hokage will see you now." She told her and motioned one of the people standing guard to show Nezuko the way. Nezuko bowed respectfully as she followed the guard upstairs.
When she made it to the office, the guard bowed slightly and returned to his post. Nezuko swallowed the slight nervousness crawling up her throat and knocked on the door. When she heard the familiar old voice say 'Enter', she slowly opened the door and was relieved to see no other person there besides the Hokage.
"Hokage-sama," She bowed. "I wanted to ask you about something since Kurenai-san hasn't returned yet." The Hokage simply nodded as permission to continue. "When I was discharged, I heard some nurses talking about an 'Uchiha boy', and that has brought to my attention that I haven't seen any Uchihas around here and I was wondering why that is?" Nezuko explained, rather professionally for an eight-year-old. The Hokage seemed surprised at the way she talked but had to remind himself that this was far from the first time he's seen intelligent kids her age.
"There has been a tragic accident regarding the Uchiha clan." He sighed heavily as he exhaled from his pipe. Nezuko was filled with dread at his words. "A couple of nights ago, an Uchiha by the name of Itachi murdered every Uchiha except one, his little brother Uchiha Sasuke." He paused to let Nezuko take it in. She was frozen with disbelief. "But...why." Nezuko managed to croak out. "We have yet to find out, but nobody saw this coming." He said gravely.
Nezuko swallowed hard as she bowed hastily. "Thank you for your help, Hokage-sama." She said as she made her way out of the office, but before exiting, she said "Also, I would like to join the academy as soon as possible." When the Hokage made a noise of confirmation, Nezuko made her way out of the office.
When she made it to the front, Nezuko forced herself to act normal to not bring attention to herself. However, just thinking about it made her stomach hurt and her head spin. She, too, had experienced what it was like to lose her family, right before her eyes too. But unlike her, it was by someone he trusted and loved. Nezuko couldn't imagine what that could've felt like. She held her kimono tightly in her hands as she navigated herself back to the apartment she stayed in.
When she made it back, Kurenai was preparing dinner with some warm tea on the table. "Oh, you're back." She said warmly when she saw her, but that smile fell when she saw her shaken state. "Nezuko, what happened?"Kurenai asked firmly. "I...I just thought about my old family." Nezuko replied with a half-truth. Kurenai's eyes turned sympathetic as she made her way to Nezuko after taking the food off the stove.
"Nezuko," she spoke softly in such an understanding way that Nezuko couldn't stop herself from looking up. "I might not understand entirely what you went through, or what you're going through now, but I need you to know that I will always be by your side no matter what it is, ok?" Kurenai said sincerely. Tears that Nezuko didn't know she had rolled down her face. She didn't think she'd find such unconditional love and dedication since she woke up in this world.
Nezuko quickly wrapped her arms around Kurenai as she let out many bottled-up emotions; grief, fear, anger, amongst many more she couldn't identify. She felt her caretaker's arms wrap her in a motherly hug as she accepted every emotion Nezuko wailed out.
