Asemahle,Anitha's mother, though not educated, highly valued her daughters education. She was poor but she did her best so her child would not go down the same route as she did,all she wanted was for her daughter to prosper in life.

As a religious person, she always prayed for her child. She found work as a domestic worker in which the salary was hardly enough to cover the basic expenses for the two of them. She lived a life of hand to mouth but she prioritized her child's child's education. She was a strong willed person and she did not value the concept of reconciliation or live in peace with all races. After apartheid she was very sceptical about whites,in her eyes they were all racists who only treated blacks as mere servants.Raising her daughter, she made it of crucial importance that she would instill these beliefs in her child's mind so often to the extent, that as Anitha grew up she believed what her mother said and she avoided all and any interaction with a white person fore she was told that she should never befriend whites, whereas marrying them was much too taboo.

Anitha's mind was so deeply cultivated, that she would grow up to view the world through her mother's eyes.

When Anitha passed seventh grade with flying colours, her mother was so delighted that she even promised to enroll her daughter to a good highschool in town away from the township, she promised this with no intention of doing so.

After alot of pressurizing, asemahle succumbed and finally enrolled her at a very good school in cape town.
