Opinion 2: BTS didn't bring kpop to the west, but they did/have very much popularized it.
This opinion may get me cancelled but you know.
I personally discovered kpop from 2nd gen groups such as 2NE1, BIGBANG, Girls Generation, etc. These groups have done tours in the west long before BTS.
I can very much agree that BTS have made kpop very popular, so thanks I guess BTS (lol)
