CHAPTER 10

The Text

(Danny's P.O.V)

"Do you need a bag for that, sir?" the attractive cashier asked at the checkout as she slid her manicured fingers through her hair. She was totally hitting on me. Unfortunately, she picked the wrong day to flirt.

"No thanks." I flashed her a pleasant smile.

"That will be eight pounds fifty four then, please."

I handed over a ten pound note and gathered up my groceries while I waited for my receipt and change, holding the bouquet of flowers carefully in one hand so they didn't get squashed.

"Thanks for shopping at CK's. Please come again soon," she said, perhaps a little too obviously while she flipped her curly black hair over one shoulder.

Why do girls touch their hair so much when they're trying to flirt, anyway?

I smiled again and nodded, before turning and heading out of the shop to my car outside.

I unlocked the doors and dropped the groceries onto the passenger seat before climbing into the driver's side and ripping open a bag of crisps. I was about to jam the key into the ignition, when my phone started buzzing in my pocket.

I pulled it out and read the text from Shawn.

Come over to mine now. It's important.

I rolled my eyes. He could be so dramatic. And he should have known better. He knew exactly what day it was. In fact, he should have been meeting me at the cemetery.

A few seconds later, he sent another text.

You know I wouldn't have bothered you today unless it was really important. You have to come over now. Please.

Reluctantly, I tapped out a reply.

I'll be there in ten.

It must have been serious.

I finished off my packet of crisps in silence, before turning the key in the ignition.

A few passersby snapped their heads around to look as my engine roared to life. Oh, the perks of having a flashy car.

I was about to drive off when I caught sight of a familiar cute blonde passing by on the opposite side of the road. I hadn't seen her for a couple of days, since the other night when she... well... tricked me.

I watched as she approached a guy on the narrow path, and awkwardly same-stepped him at least four times before the guy gave up and just let her pass.

I burst out laughing at how red she went. There was something about the way she could blush so easily that was so... cute.

I shook my head.

No way. No way am I crushing on her. Danny Beckham does not crush on girls.

I pulled out of the small parking area and followed in the direction that Alexis went.

I drove up to her slowly on the pathway and rolled down the window, loudly wolf-whistling to catch her attention.

She spun her head around in shock, and then relaxed when she saw it was me. "You."

"That's a nice way to greet your friend-with-benefits," I said sarcastically.

She narrowed her eyebrows, opening and closing her mouth, and I could tell that she was struggling to decide whether to apologise or deny that we had 'benefits'.
