elisabeth, five . . .

chicago gaffney hospital . . .

chicago, illinois . . .

december fifteenth, 2140 . . .

Waking up somewhere he hadn't been before wasn't entirely uncommon for Five, given that his teleportation powers often acted out when he had nightmares or flashbacks. However, waking up in a futuristic hospital room, wires and tubes coming out of him, was slightly new. Five had spent the last two years avoiding hospitals despite getting hurt several times since they successfully prevented the third apocalypse, because the one time he'd woken up in a hospital he'd flashbacked to his time in the commission and hurt two orderlies and a nurse before he'd been sedated, and his siblings had broken him out of the hospital before he could do any more damage and Klaus had treated his injuries after the surgery on his knee until he healed. Waking up with pain in his side, his ribs aching something fierce ass the only thing that stopped from panicking, because every time he'd woken up in the Infirmary at the Commission, they had already done whatever they were going to do and was never in any pain, already healed back to what they said was 'perfect condition'.

"Cnag." [ Irish ; Fuck ] Five groaned, head pounding as he sat up, taking in his surroundings. The room itself didn't look much different to any other hospital room, however the technology being used was definitely different than anything he'd ever seen before. The heart monitor was wireless, a small, almost translucent screen on the wall. He ignored the pain in his side from the tube, looking at the IV in his arm with interest. It looked as though it had dislodged a few times, and they'd wrapped sports tape around it to hold it in place. A woman walked in just then, holding some kind of futuristic tablet and frowning. She was tall, with long dark hair, brown eyes, chocolate-coloured skin - she looked a lot like Lila, Five considered as he looked at her - she was wearing a long white coat, with a blue shirt and a pair of blue scrub trousers. She had some kind of tag around her neck with a clear piece of plastic that looked to be the same size as a drivers licence and some kind of odd strap around her forearm secured with two straps.

"Good, you're awake. I'm Doctor Elisabeth Shannon. Can you tell me your name?" Elisabeth asked. Five stared at her cautiously, eyes guarded. She noticed this and gave him a gentle smile, placing her tablet down on the end of the bed. "I won't hurt you, young man. I can tell you have some past trauma to do with medical professionals?" Five nodded sharply. "Well, I'm more than willing to earn your trust. How about I tell you about myself first, then you can tell me your name?"

"Okay." Five dragged the word out, ignoring the building pain from the position.

"Well, i'm married, I have two children around your age, Josh and Maddy. My husband's name is Jim, and his brother Jason and his wife Stephanie are trying for children at the moment." Elisabeth explained. "Is that enough information?"

"My name is Five. Five Hargreeves." Five reluctantly informed her. She smiled brightly, picking up her tablet to input the data.

"Thank you. Can you tell me how old you are?"

"That's um, complicated," Five hesitated. Elisabeth properly looked at him then and noticed the genuine confusion on his face, brow furrowed while his eyes flitted about. "Fifteen, I think. My birthday is October First."

"Fifteen?" She frowned at him. "You look a lot younger than that. You don't look much older than my oldest, Josh."

"I do?" Five asked, alarmed. He touched his face, not feeling the facial hair he had started growing or the small scar that had been on his cheek from a fight he'd gotten into when he was fourteen. He looked down at his hands, unmarred by the scars he had from time spent in an apocalypse, and when he pushed the blanket down to check his leg, the scar from when he broke his knee and needed surgery to repair the damage was gone. "What the fuck?"
