"Ugh! Let me sleep!" I groaned rolling on the other side of my bed. My mom has been calling my name non-stop for the last five minutes.
"C'mon honey. It's your first day in college. You don't want to be late on your first day, do you?"
"Alright mom. I'm coming!" I respond zombily. To be honest, i'm not planning to go out of bed yet.
"Ok. Be fast! Pancakes are waiting!" she hummed. My mom knew so well how i am a big damn fan of pancakes. I get up fast and rub my sleeping cells away with a few jump n' jacks. I went straight to my bathroom. Tied my hair into a bun, brushed my teeth with my favourite Colgate, washed my hair with vanilla & honey shampoo and scrubbed myself with my banana mint soap.
I can't believe it! i'm in college starting today. Day's have gone fast. Summer is too. It felt like it had just left me in a blink.
Oh well. I just hope i'll do good. It's gonna be bigger surely.
I dried my hair. I have always loved my hair. It's not like other girls' hair with all blonde and perfect curls. Mine's just straight black with a hint of brown and natural baby curls. I haven't tried anything in it. I mean, like rebond, and all the straightening agents. I like its natural softness.
I walked into my closet and choose my outfit for today.
I decided on a neon pink tank top with a massive mustache inked at the center, a plaid-ripped shorts and my favourite black vans. I better keep it cool because the breeze of summer is still felt. I parlored my hair into a mid-ponytail still thinking about the pancakes waiting for me downstairs.
Looking for my bags, I heard my stomach grrrr-ing. "Ok. ok! i'm done." I talked to my tummy as if it understands what i'm saying. I hurried down the stair fast enough not to notice my baby sleeping at the end of the steps. "Oh hey baby. Why are you sleeping just there hmm?" I carry him and feel his soft furry hair. "I'm not going to see you in a month. So you eat a lot because i want you healthy when I get back." I hugged my cat tightly and rub his stomach. He likes it when I do that.
"You are always so slow sleepy head. Come hear and eat your lunch. You're already late!" I'm gonna miss my mom. She's the best mom in the entire universe. Not saying because i'm her daughter but because it's true. She's a saint. For raising me all by herself, i salute her.
I smiled at her and dig into my plate full of pancakes with melted butter & honey. "I'm gonna miss your pancakes mom."
She gave me a lonely smile and tapped my back. "I'm gonna miss waking you up every morning too. But now, you have to eat. So be fast." She sat beside me and we started eating the best breakfast ever!
I carried my last bag i need to bring to my temporary home. I let out a deep sigh. I'm not gonna live in this house for a few months. i'm not gonna sleep in my ever-so-comfy bed nor to wake up with my baby beside me.
I'm not gonna see my mom. No one's going to knock on my door to forever every morning, no one's gonna cook my favourite pancakes for my breakfast. Before i knew it, the cab has arrived and my mom's been calling me. "Laura honey, faster! cab's waiting and you are so late!"
"Why do i feel like you want to get rid of me already?" I said with humor. She laughed.
"How did you know?" she said joking. I'm gonna miss my mom big time. She can be over-protective most of the time but i know it's for me. And i'm happy she's concerned. But it's time for me to be independent.
"I'm gonna miss you and your pancakes mom." I hugged her tight. "Sure you will."
She pulled away from the hug and held my shoulders with both hands. "Laura, you are in the right age already and I know you are responsible enough but please, don't drink or party too much, hang out with the right people and don't give in to some handsome, rich guy unless you love him and please hun, use prot-"
"Ok mom. Stop. I've heard enough." she chuckled at my reaction. I jumped in to the cab and is about to close the door when mom talked again.
"I'm serious Laura. Don't get involved with the bad boys."
