CHAPTER THREE:

Jessica walked out of her front door, this would be the first time she felt the sun against her skin in over a week.

She hated it, hated the thought that Michael would never feel it again, every inch of her body pleaded to go back inside her room and lock the door.

But she stayed, staring at the house across the street, Michaels parents weren't home and she had business to attend to, she needed to find the note.

She needed to know why Michael did what he did. She took a deep breath and walked across the busy rode without bothering to make sure she wasn't endangered of being hit by a car. Once she got to the other side of the street, she quickly walked over to Michaels old window. She knew the lock was broke on it and it would be an easy way in. She slid the window up and crawled in. Holding back tears, she stood up and started looking around the room, the rancid smell of dried blood still haunted the atmosphere. The first place she looked was in his old closet, it was empty. His parents had gotten rid of all Michaels things. She didn't know that when she decided two days ago to look around his room. Now her actions feel as if they're being done in vein, there was nothing left of Michaels in the house.

Disappointed, she leaves, sitting down in front of her house, crying in frustration.

"Thanks," Jessica says, "And no reason. Just curious, That's all."

As she walks away Mr. Clark grabs her arm and whispers, "Miss. Porter, some things are better off left alone. The past is the past, let it be."

Jessica stands back and looks at her teacher, nods, and walks away.

She would never give up. "Michael would want me to know the truth," she says to herself.

"What is it Miss. Porter? Can't you see I'm working?"
