I opened my eyes, seeing through a greenish haze strange men in white lab coats. I looked to my left, eager to view more with this newfound sight. I saw a young girl, around the age of eight. Her skin was pale, looking a bit off because of the red-tinted fluid in her tank. Her hair was a reddish color, and it floated freely in the tank. Her hair was long, very long, looking as if it'd reach to her knees if she was under the effects of normal gravity. She had strange markings under her eyes, like stripes. She had similar markings on her shoulders, with strange looking markings around her belly button. She had marks on her wrists and ankles that resembled bracelets in the way they circled the limb completely, yet they were more savage looking, rough at the edges, seemingly carved into her skin with ragged claws. The marks were all darkly colored, like the color of shadows. She had brown, foxlike ears, with a white patch on the tips; she had a fluffy, foxlike tail a similar color to her ears, with a white tip on it, as well. I looked at her, then down at myself, and noticed we were both clothesless. I did not feel embarrassed, though, as I probably should have; it felt completely natural, and it felt normal. I noticed strange markings on myself as well, and investigated them further. I had strange, swirling, silvery designs going up my arms and legs. They grew darker as they went down. They wrapped around my body like vines, in the most peculiar way, like they were holding me, binding me to something I did not yet know; it intrigued me, in a way it probably should not have. I looked to the right, eager to see more, to know more. What I saw stunned me with its beauty. A boy, around the age of 15 or 16, floated in a pinkish-red liquid. His silvery-blue hair floated, waving in the liquid. He was quite pale, with thin limbs that looked strong, despite their wiry appearance. Strange markings covered his body, much like the fox girl and myself. They looked like vines, with winding limbs that reached out to every part of him, starting at his stomach. His ears were thin and pointed; even if his hair was not affected by the liquid he was in, his ears would stick out; they were rather long, but they fit his thin face and slightly pointed nose and chin. Suddenly, he opened his eyes, looking directly at me; my heart started pounding harder. I would've gasped, had I been breathing. (Don't freak out; she was made to not have to breathe unless she was surrounded by oxygen as a safety precaution. This means swimming must be incredibly simple for her.) His eyes were unlike anything I had ever seen, although this wasn't saying much, given the short list of things I had seen. The first thing I noticed about them was that they weren't the same color; one of them was a striking gold, the other a shade of violet I didn't know existed. The slightest hint of a smile passed over his features, then disappeared. Had I not been paying attention, I would've missed it, how fast it had happened; but of course I had been paying attention, because how could I not? This boy commanded my entire conciousness, and probably parts of my unconcious as well. (Interpret that as you will. I know some of you out there are perverted <3) I was helpless under his gaze, trapped, like a rabbit in a hungry wolf's jaws. Suddenly, I was broken out of my trance when a strangely excited looking man in a white coat came up to my tank. He had graying hair, with bright eyes. His skin showed the signs of age; he must have been at least 50. He shouted something over his shoulder to his companions, and they hurried over. The commotion had awakened the 8 year old fox girl, and she looked frightened; I looked at her and smiled, trying to comfort her; she seemed to understand and nodded, looking a bit less frightened, and stared at me. Her face was filled with amazement. I blinked. What was so special about me? The scientists were staring at me, as well. I tilted my head to the side, a bit confused. My tank was opened, and the minute I was out, I was choking and spluttering, gasping for air. Bright lights from overhead blinded me. The air was cold, and it seared my skin like flames; it was so cold, it burned. I shivered violently. Suddenly, something soft was thrown over me. A...Blanket? Yes, that's what it was. It was warm, as if someone had just been wrapped up in it. Gradually, I got used to the cold air and was able to take the blanket off. I stretched; it felt good to stretch. Everyone gasped, staring at my back, or somewhere around it. I looked behind me, wondering what they were staring at. Then I saw them; they were so natural, they felt so natural, so normal, that I hadn't noticed them. My eyes widened at their beauty.
I had wings.
