Jules laid wide awake on her bed, paranoid. She was exhausted but she couldn't sleep. It had been happening quite too often to her and she has no explanation for it despite how desperately she strove to find out why this had been happening to her. There was no logical reasoning and it stumped her.
Every night, the moment the clock struck 3am, she would blink and find herself in this dark room. She can never see anything and it always petrifies her. Out of nowhere, a pale hand would appear and would offer her a cup of tea. She knows she must politely reject it and when she does so the person will insist her. It is then that she must abruptly break into a run.
The figure will follow after her and she must continue onwards at inhumanely high speeds. Run where? Wherever she could and on times she was lucky the place would give a sudden blinding flash and the scene would transform into an outdoor garden. But light- sunlight- as she had made herself believe it was, would not work in her favor in two ways. First, it would offer her no concealment unlike the dark did and secondly it would incite her to steal a glance at he figure as she ran.
An incomprehensible black cloud, with long slender arm like structures poking out at its sides, always right on her tail when ever she looked. Barely brushing against her. The only good that did was fuel up her terror level to beg her legs not to let her down. She could feel it grabbing a fistful of her hair and yanking her seconds before she found herself back tucked in her bed in her room.
It was the yank that brought her back every time. The figure would jerk her backwards with such unearthly force that it shook her and when she would recover from the shock and dread of being caught, she would be back in her room. The weirdest part was that she could never feel herself teleporting between locations. While the duration it lasted, her body went numb and she felt absolutely nothing. Nor would she ever remember seeing, hearing, smelling anything while she unintentionally traveled between those realms but what happened there was real.
It never felt like a dream. Taking with whatever that was, running from it-
It was then that it hit her. How did she even communicate with that creature? Every time after coming back she would put everything into trying to remember anything it had said to her, told her, warned her. Nothing, it was always nothing. She could always recall it saying something to her and her understanding what was, but it never stuck in her head long enough for her to remember after she got back. That frustrated the hell out of her and in her bed, when she returned she could practically feel herself loosing a little more of her sanity.
She was going insane. That must be it, she told herself, this was all a figment of her imagination. None of it was real. It couldn't have been. She wasn't crazy.
She shifted anxiously under the sheets, eyeing the clock as she wriggled around for comfort. '2:59 am' it read. She squeezed her eyes shut as panic furiously coursed through her body.
Its alright.
Its alright.
Its alright.
It was thirteen minutes only.
She buried herself into her pillow and sunk deep into it as if it was going to save her from what ever that monstrosity was. She held her breath and waited for it to be over but then instead she heard her digital clock beeping faintly. Once... Twice.... Thrice.
It was 3am.
She awaited for her pillow, her blanket, her bed- her room to disappear.
It didn't and it confused her. Usually by now, she'd be there rejecting his offered tea but she wasn't. Still, eaten up by apprehension she refused to move but eventually she couldn't hold back the joy of it all being over once and for all. When curiosity got the best of her she slowly sat up, sighing in relief as her eyes presented to her the welcoming sight of her own room instead of that dark, creepy ass place. Just then, her eye caught something else too. Right behind her half open door.
"I heard you didn't like that place, so I came here for you hmm?"
Two glowing eyes in the light ridden corner. Two slender arms attached to a black- something that was supposed to resemble a body but was so twisted it couldn't be classified as one.
"Isn't that great, Jules?"
Its coming towards her but this time she cannot escape from it. This time it won't be thirteen minutes only.
