Ch. 1 Pt. 1

Fay's vision became blurry and her eyes sore after at least two hours of staring at her computer screen. She was just finishing up on an essay for her English class when a notification alert sounded on her phone.
She tossed aside her long red hair and reached for it where it lay on her bed - a mere two feet from where she sat at her desk. She entered her pin quickly and opened her messages, wondering who would be texting her on a non-school day. She didn't exactly have much of a social life - not because she wasn't charismatic; she was exceedingly so. She had always been able to read people like a book and get them to trust her with little to no effort. However, with advanced classes, tennis, and freelance writing crowding up her schedule, she did not have any time for friends, or socializing in general.
So, at nineteen years old, she only had herself to depend on. Her mother, who had birthed her at a questionably young age, had died ten years ago with unknown causes. Her father, whom she had never actually met, was supposedly a skilled detective that had been killed by a vengeful criminal two years earlier. She had no siblings, and she barely knew the rest of her extended family.
Unfortunately for her, Fay was one of those people that needed constant company and inter-human interaction. Loneliness was something she was barely coping with.
A new contact named Thomas popped up. The profile picture was not a familiar face. It was a young, bearded man with light skin and hair slightly darker than hers. She frowned at the new contact and clicked on the conversation:

Thomas - Hello?

Thomas - Are you there?

Fay smirked. At least it wasn't another spam message from the nonexistent "Alta Fitness" telling her that she had won an at-home gym. She replied:

Fay - Hello

Thomas - Uh

Thomas - Hello

Thomas - No matter how I put this, it'll sound crazy

Thomas - I've gone over this so many times in my head

Thomas - Wait a sec

Thomas - I have to add the others first

Thomas - Please don't go

     "The others?" Fay wondered aloud.
Notifications popped up one by one on the chat screen, indicating all the people Thomas was adding:

Thomas added Cleo.
Thomas added Dan.
Thomas added Lilly.
Thomas added Richy.

Lilly - Hello

Richy - Hey

Dan - Seriously, guys? A real genius idea this...

Thomas - Dan, please shut up.

Fay's eyebrows shot up in suprise at the unexpected quantity. She quickly surveyed each profile picture before the conversation began.
Richy was a happy-looking blonde man with one crooked eye. He was handsome despite it, and he wore a baby blue sweatshirt.
Dan was a bulky man with long brown hair and a beard. He was one of those people that you could tell were unintelligent just by looking at him...
Lilly was a youthful girl with short blonde hair and shining blue eyes. She looked like she could still be in high school.
And finally, Cleo was a mature looking woman with long brown hair and wire-framed glasses.
Fay did not bother glancing at any of the material under their profiles quite yet. She had a feeling something important was happening and she did not wish to be distracted.

Fay - Um, I'm a little confused

Thomas - Sorry, I'm almost there

Dan - ...

Cleo - Oh, is that them?

Dan - Seems that way, doesn't it?

Thomas added Jessy.
