"But I don't wanna."

A voice whined coming from below me. Looking down at my lap, Harper was laying comfortably with her head on my thighs, blonde strands curling around her face like a halo. I picked a loose strand and twirled it aroung my index finger. "You're never going to finish at this point."

My girlfriend glared up at me. However cute I found her whining and glares to be didn't matter because her work day was almost over and she still had a ton of crap to do.

"Come on," I tried convincing. "I'll buy you the largest cup of coffee as soon as we get outta here. With an additional slice of strawberry cheesecake."

That seemed to be a deal breaker because she stilled and put on her thinking face. Harper thought long and hard about it before she came to a conclusion. "Deal." With a start— and impressive abdominal muscles— she sat up straight with a determined expression. Looking at her made me want to smile so hard, I had to force my face to calm the hell down. "But we're going to that one place down the block that I like," she added.

"Wherever you want as long as you let me stop distracting you already."

Her tone was soft and she had a smile on when she said "okay", but I could still detect traces of tiredness in her voice. I felt a little bad for interrupting her nap on my lap as I watched Harper stand and rub the sleep from her eyes. For the past month, since we've been official, I saw how hard she worked, giving the company her all.

Early mornings and late nights spent making sure business was going as smoothly as possible under her watch. Hundreds of calls and thousands of documents. The amount of times I saw her sign her name on a paper, a check, a contract, made my hand cramp and I wasn't even the one doing it. I wasn't even here half the time, so who knew how many pens she actually goes through per week. And good lord, does she handle it all so well, cool and in stride, never once uttering a word of complaint.

It made me admire her more than I already did. How that was even possible, I had no clue.

But hard work takes its toll from even the most workaholic of people.

Harper snuggled herself deeper into my uniform's suit jacket as she took a seat back on her chair. Nowadays, she was wearing that black jacket more often that I did, she looked good in it too. Whereas I took it off as soon as I board the plane, Harper always dons that shit like she owns it whenever I have it with me. Like today.

I liked seeing her in my clothes anyway, so it wasn't a bother.

I settled further into Harper's expensive office couch, my legs tucked under me. The chilly air-conditioned room made me feel the fatigue that was brewing since my flight this morning take over my body. With nothing else to do, I focused my gaze on the most interesting thing in the place; Madison Harper Scott herself.
