A chill races down my spine and I do as the mysterious voice instructed. Of course, it is the same figure that has disrupted my life for the last several days.
"Why do you keep following me?" I ask, trying to keep my voice steady. I'm not going to be afraid anymore.
"You hurt me..." They say, a hint of sadness in their voice.
"What are you--"
"And now you will feel my pain." They say, coming towards me.
They reach out to grab me, but I dodge their attack and kick them in the leg, making them momentarily lose their balance.
"Leave me alone!" I scream.
They steady themself and come at me again, this time sending a punch to my stomach. I grab my stomach, coughing. Once I get myself together, I charge towards the figure and tackle them to the ground. Before they can push me off, my hands are already tangled into their stringy black hair, repeatedly slamming their head into the hard ground. Dust clouds around their head, becoming more dense with each blow. Their facial expression stays the same, that creepy smile written across their lips never wavering and those black brown eyes never looking anywhere else but straight into mine. A pool of blood begins to seep out from under their head, slowly surrounding them and mixing with the dusty dirt of the ground. Suddenly, after about the 10th blow, the darkness begins to drain from their eyes until the irises and pupils are nothing more than just a part of the whites of their eyes. I loosen my hold on the creature's hair and let their head fall to the ground, sending up one final cloud of dust.
I stand up, my heart pounding in my chest, admiring my work. I've done it. This horrible being is now gone from existence. I look down at my hands and notice they're covered in dirt and blood. I quickly wipe them on my jeans and look at the horizon ahead of me. It's still daytime, but it won't be long before the sun starts to set.
Still standing in the same spot, I start to hear police sirens off in the distance. I stop to listen as the sound gets closer and closer. Then they stop. I begin to shake with fear, what if they're coming for me?
After a couple minutes, the sound of voices travelling up the trail enters my ears, making itself known with the increasing speed of my heartbeat. The voices sound as if they belong to two men, and sure enough, two men appear into view. Quickly, they start walking in my direction when they notice me. Upon closer inspection, my eyes reveal to me that one of the officers is the one I've talked to numerous times at the police station.
"Lana, is that you?" He says, rushing towards me.
"I've found who's done all those things to me! They tried to kill me, but I did it! I got them!" I yell to him triumphantly pointing at the lifeless body lying at my feet.
"Lana," He says, taking a moment to breathe.
"There's no one there."
