Joey Gilmore woke up to the sound of loud banging on her bedroom door, shortly followed with a countdown starting from five, courtesy of her sister. Joey sat up in bed and pulled of her sleep mask, not before throwing her throw pillow at her door to try get her sister away from her personal space so early in the morning. She sighed, rolling over in her bed to check the time on her alarm clock, fuming with anger that Rory had woken her up before it had gone off.
Joeys eyes widened as soon as she saw the number on the screen that was staring back at her. 7:10. How could it be 7:10? It's not possible that its 7:10. She had set her alarm for 6:00 am like any sensible young girl would who was starting her very first day in a very new school. She had the whole morning planned out in a check list that was taped onto her mirror and everything! This was the last time she buys anything just because its pink and fluffy.
Throwing on her uniform as fast as humanly possible while also brushinng your teeth was not the easiest thing in the world, but she did it. Joey smiled, feeling confident in her new uniform ( thankfully lorelai knew how to sew, so it didn't look like the skirt was swallowing her anymore) she knew she'd have to do her makeup and hair in the car or else so she gathered up her stuff and headed out.
The car ride to the school was tension filled. The three girls nerves all coming together to create an intense feeling that all of them felt, but didn't want to talk about. Joey looked out the window as she passed her small town, feeling a pang in her heart as she saw Shelby and Matty walking up the steps to her now old school. She tried to shake away the bad thoughts that were quickly forming, doing her best to convince herself that they weren't going to forget about her or replace her with someone new. But no matter how hard she tried, the feelings were still there.
Chilton had been exactly how Joey pictured it. A giant, tall, old building. It was like a haunted castle from the period films she watched, filled with dungeons and paintings with eyes that followed you with every step you took.
"I thought it would be smaller."
"Yeah..." Joey replied while staring at the massive school, poking her head through the gap between Lorelai and Rory.
"And less... off with their heads."
"Yeah..." Joey repeated, tilting her head to her side to try get a better look at the school before she actually had to go in.
Her mother followed in suit, tilting her head to the side, her eyebrows furrowed together in bewilderment. "What are you two looking at?" Rory questioned, also now tilting her head.
"I'm just trying to see if theres a hunchback up in that bell tower."
Joey sighed, trying to smooth out her once perfectly ironed blazer thats now wrinkled from how quickly she put it on. "Mom, how do I look? And be honest, please!"
